Final Serenity
A brown mini van made its way down a long, thin, twisting road surrounded by a forest of pine trees. It was early February and there was a thin coat of snow on the ground. Clouds blocked out the sun and made a gray color sky. Snow lightly fell from the sky and further shortened sight range.
At the driver seat of the mini van was Caroline Wang, a twenty seven year old Vietnamese girl. She had long, black hair and black eyes. She was a mere five feet tall and weighed less than one hundred fifty pounds. Her boyfriend, Cedric Clayton, a twenty six year old six foot tall man, sat in the passenger seat. He had black eyes and short blonde hair. His mother was Japanese and his father was German. He could speak English, German, and Japanese. The couple was going to see Caroline's parents.
"How much longer," Cedric asked.
"We should almost be at the main road," Caroline said, "Shit, fog."
Ahead of the car was a wall of misty fog. Once the car entered the fog, sight range was instantly reduced to a tenth.
"Aw, damn, what's this?" Caroline slowed the car to a stop in front of a police blockade, "what happened here, officer?"
"Mudslide," a fat police officer with a beard walked over, "completely flattened a bus full of people, real tragedy."
"Oh," Caroline said, "didn't something like this happen a bunch of year ago?"
"Yeah, well, it happened again. The fog hid the mudslide and the driver never saw it coming."
"I guess we'll have to turn back then,"
"Well," the officer pointed behind Caroline's car, "there's a small one way path right there that'll take you straight back to the main road and you can continue from there. It's only about ten miles long."
"Ok, thanks," Caroline made a u-turn and drove down the dirt path.
Caroline drove for hours and still didn't reach the main road. Cedric drifted off into a deep sleep and the pine trees soon disappeared and were replaced with dead trees. The branches seemed to reach inward at the car and the path seemed to grow thinner. The snowfall was still slow but had become denser. The light had faded as well and after a short while Caroline had to turn on the headlights to see anything. But even the light of Caroline's high beams could barely help.
"Shit," Caroline checked her cell phone but saw that she had no service, "Hey Cedric let me see your phone."
Caroline turned to Cedric but saw that he was sleeping. She shook her head and turned back to the road, but suddenly a black figure hit the front of the car and Caroline was knocked out.
