A/N: My friend told me to write this out and so I did. I hope you enjoy it, and if you do I would love to hear what you thought!

Headcanon: Jason comes to the manor to rejoin the family and they're all cuddling and laughing and looking like a normal family without him so he leaves.

Jason pulled up to the Manor, a small smile playing on his lips.

He finally came home with the goal of reconciling with the rest of his family.

After all these years, and all his suffering, he finally decided to try and regain what was lost– a family.

It took him a lot of urging from Roy and Kory, and some threats from them too, but he stepped into his car earlier this morning and started driving home. The drive was riddled with self-doubt and his insecurities, and he turned around to go back to his safe house a good few times, but every time the memory of his brothers and father urged him back on path.

The lone bird was returning home. Jason would make the first move, and hope they accepted him again.

If his family refused his apology, he would leave and forget all ties with them.

He would help them of course when they called for it, and would patch up their wounds… But he would no longer be a Wayne and would no longer be their brother…

This was his last chance, in a way, and if this failed, he would give up all hope and finally forget his place in the Manor.

He swore it to himself– no more pain if you can help it, don't try to love those who don't love you, give up hope of there is none, and forget all family of they had forgotten you.

This was his last chance.

Stepping up to the door, he took a deep and calming breath.

Jason raised his hand to knock, but something held him back.

With trembling hands, he moved to the window and peered in.

His heart broke at the sight.

The room was aglow with a soft light, and the family sitting there looked normal. Bruce and Damian were cuddling on the couch, a weird but adorable sight. Dick and Tim were playing video games on the screen– Mario kart by the looks of it– and they were pushing each other around and laughing.

They looked so normal, so happy, that Jason's heart hurt.

They looked like they were perfect the way they were, like no one was missing, like they didn't need anyone else.

Jason was forgotten by them, and they didn't need him there.

If he walked in now, the little haven would break and shatter, ripped apart by fighting and tears.

Bruce, his own father, who promised he would always be there, had abandoned him.

Dick, his older brother, who was the strong and comforting presence in his life, replaced him.

Tim, his sweet, sweet little brother, the one who, no matter what, wished for him to rejoin their family, had forgotten him.

Damian, his youngest brother, the little demon who always had his back in any fight, had left him.

They didn't need Jason in there to ruin the picture perfect sight and wasn't selfish enough to try.

Jason, with tears welling up in his eyes, slowly stepped away from the window.

They didn't need him, so he didn't need them.

He wouldn't force them to accept him.

He wouldn't try to fit in where he wasn't wanted.

He couldn't take the pain of being rejected anymore, and he couldn't torture himself anymore.

Jason has officially given up on rejoining the family.

An hour later, despite all his claims he was "fine," Jason broke down and had to pull over.

Resting his head on the steering wheel, tears running down his face, Jason finally realized he would never be accepted anywhere.

His family didn't need him anymore…

But he needed still them…
