Daniel Fitzgerald Reagan— June 3
It was finally lunchtime and two detectives decided that they could go out for food.
"Where do you want to go for lunch Frank?"
"Actually I'm supposed to be meeting my wife at the Pink Panther Chinese restaurant. It's her latest craving for food."
"Oh so she's still craving food? My wife couldn't stand the thought of it after the 6th month. Can I join you?"
"Of course you can Dave. She thinks of you as family you know "
The woman they were talking about was Mary Reagan and she was 9 months along with hers and Franks first child. The two got in the car and drove to the fore mentioned restaurant. Upon arrival, Frank spotted his wife and went to sit with her while Dave went to get food. After Dave arrived they ate and talked about family.
"You and Mary have a name picked for the baby yet?"
"Actually we do. Daniel if it's a boy and Daniella if it's a girl."
"Oh my that's a beautiful name"
"Yeah. We tried to think of a unisex name so we didn't have to pick a new one if it ended up being the opposite gender as the name... Mary are you alright?!
"No! I think it's time. Just in lots of pain."
"We have to get to the hospital now! Dave think you can drive?"
"You know it I can! You stay with your wife. We can take the car we came in since we can have lights and siren on all the way. We'll call St. Fransisco hospital on the way."
"Perfect. We'll have you there before you know it Mary. Just hang in there."
Phone call
St Francisco hospital. How may I help you?
Yes this is detective Reagan and I'm here with both my wife and partner and my wife is nine months pregnant and in labor. We'll be there in about 10ish minutes.
Perfect. We'll have a maternity ward and doctor waiting for you when you arrive.
End phone call
"Can you believe it Frank? In a few hours we'll be parents. Do you have a gender preference? I don't care as long as it's healthy."
"Me neither as long as it's healthy."
"We're here. Go I'll be waiting. You tell you're Dad yet?"
"No. Can you do it?"
"Sure."
At the Commissioner's office:
"Henry. I just got a call from St. Fransisco hospital that Mary was raced in by your son and his partner and is possibly in labor right now. Go I'll hold down the fort here."
"Thank you. I can't believe I'm going to be a grandpa today. Can you notify Betty?"
"Of course."
In the hospital:
"Alright Ms. Reagan I can see the head. One more big push for me."
After that push they were rewarded with a nice healthy wail.
"Congrats Mr and Ms Reagan it's a boy. Dad you want to cut the cord?
"Do I?! Yes!"
After cutting the cord:
"I have to take him for just a few minutes so I can make sure he's healthy. Do you have a name for him yet?"
"We do. Daniel Fitzgerald Reagan."
"Kay. I'll note it on his chart. Mom when I bring him back I think you should try to nurse him. The sooner he does, the sooner you can take him home."
" Honey I'm going to go tell Dad that baby Daniel is here."
"That's fine. I'll be ok here."
In the waiting room
As Frank walked in both his parents and partner stood up.
"It's a boy!"
"Congratulations man. I'm so happy for you. When do I get to meet him?"
"All three of you can as soon as I get word he's healthy."
"Frank your wife is asking for you. Your baby is perfectly healthy. 9 Pounds 7 Ounces. Heart rate is perfectly normal. I'd say you've got a fighter on your hands."
