Stick to the Instructions

Sunday afternoons were now officially "Cookie making afternoons", as Kaito liked to call them. Every week, Aoko would come over in the afternoon and bake a batch of cookies with Kaito; she didn't trust him to make them himself, not after that time he managed to make one huge cookie out of the cookie dough mix.

This particular Sunday afternoon, the two had just finished placing the cookies on a tray, ready to be baked in the oven, which Aoko had left Kaito to do; she'd gone to watch TV in the living room.

Now Kaito, being the creative boy that he was, decided that he wanted some change in the cookies. Plain choc chip cookies simply weren't unhealthy enough. Quietly, so not to be heard by Aoko, he grabbed a packet of M&Ms from the cupboard, and began to place them on the cookies. Grinning to himself, Kaito placed the now unrecognisable "cookies" into the oven and waited for them to be ready.

Fifteen minutes later…

"Yay! Cookies!" said Kaito happily, bouncing up and down in excitement while Aoko took the cookies out of the oven. He was so excited that he didn't notice a small frown had appeared on Aoko's face, as she stared at the colourful creations on the tray. Because of all the M&Ms Kaito had placed on the cookie mix, the cookies had failed to rise; some had even melted into little colourful puddles.

"Kaito?" said Aoko quietly, "What happened to the cookies?"

Kaito stopped bouncing up and down, sensing from Aoko's quiet voice that something was wrong. When Aoko's voice became quiet, it usually meant someone was in trouble. That someone was most of the time, him.

"I… uh.. added some…M&Ms?" said Kaito, grinning at Aoko. "For extra chocolate, you know?" he added. Aoko's face however, remained expressionless. Kaito began to back away slowly, sensing that he was about to be yelled at (again).

"KUROBA KAITO, WHY CAN'T YOU STICK TO THE INSTRUCTIONS? NOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO THE COOKIES!" screamed Aoko furiously. Really, Kaito thought, he wasn't sure how someone so small could have so much lung capacity, it just wasn't normal.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! It won't happen again." Said Kaito apologetically, looking absolutely terrified of Aoko- the next time he was going to make M&M choc chip cookies, he'd have to make sure Aoko wasn't around to scream at him, his poor eardrums were starting to already suffer the consequences.

"Just kidding." Aoko grinned at Kaito. "I just wanted to see your terrified expression; it's almost as bad as the expression you get when I mention fish. Let's eat the, uh, cookie puddle!"

Kaito sighed. She really did love to torture him, didn't she?
