I counted the coins laying on the palm of my hand, excitement filling me up. I had a total of 3 dollars and 30 cents. Just enough for a bar of chocolate. My friend, Jason and I have been saving up for weeks before this, which by now would seem like we would have a lot more money, but unfortunately, it is hard for 12-year-olds to find a good job and help their families.

But now we finally had enough, I rushed down the street, dodging people as I go.

Jason and I would get a chocolate bar at Jupiter's Candy Camp and eat it when the clock hits 12, when a new year starts, both of us hoping that the year that comes would be better.

I opened the door, hearing the familiar bell ring, with the scent of sweets filling my nose. I walked over to the chocolate stand, grabbing Zeus's milk chocolate bar, our favourite brand.

I could already smell the chocolate from inside its package before walking over to the cashier. They scanned my item and I paid them, soon I was on my way back to my house. I couldn't stop smiling on my way back, New Years was in 3 hours.

The 3 hours went by fast and soon I was sitting on our bench waiting for Jason. Jason and I would usually sit here and watch the fireworks together.

"Hey!" Jason yelled out as I saw him walking towards me, smile plastered on his face.

He sat down beside me as I started to unwrap the paper, hearing a soft tear, and then I unwrapped the foil carefully, revealing a chocolate bar halfway cut into 8 squares.

I snapped the bar in half, giving one half to Jason. I snapped a square off of mine and put it in my mouth, the chocolate melting in my mouth made a smile appear on my face as we watched the fireworks.
