Draco felt fear weaken his knee but he did not back down from the steely gaze. "An absolute disgrace, cavorting wantonly with filth" Lucius boomed as the cane struck Draco. It left Draco whimpering with pain. "Take it like a man, you no good excuse for a wizard!" he said, bringing the cane down with greater force. "I loathe you, I am ashamed to call you a Malfoy. You are a disgrace. Avada..." and Lucius was blasted off his feet as a pulsating white beam of light exploded and zapped him. He quivered in outrage. "Cissa? You condone his actions?" Lucius asked, stunned beyond belief. "I do not condone his actions, but I will not watch idly as you prepare to kill your own flesh and blood. His misdeeds will be dealt with, later". Narcissa replied coldly, muttering healing spells on both men and waving her thirteen inch hornbeam wand with a silver felt tip. "Mother..." Draco looked at her with love and relief that she had saved his life. She sharply cut him off. "Draco Lucius Malfoy, consider yourself banished from this home and you will be stripped of the Malfoy inheritances if you choose to continue on the path you are headed down" she pronounced imperiously, and glided upstairs, snapping her fingers at the elves to clean up. "I choose H.." " DON'T YOU SAY THAT NAME IN THIS HOUSE, BOY!" she thundered at him, taking his appearance in one final time. A shadow passed over her, and then so did the moment. Draco walked out of his childhood home with a grimace and unshed tears, head held high.
He limped towards the gate, where the Malfoy wards freed up to admit him passage one last time. He turned back and looked at the magnificent mansion. So big. So empty. Like their hearts, he thought as his feet swayed. The last of his strength giving way, he collapsed and he heard someone cry out "Draco!"
He opened his eyes to see her brown eyes rife with anxiety. She clasped his knuckles tightly, afraid that he would pass out again. "He tried to kill me. She disowned me." he said, his voice growing thick with emotion. Her eyes grew wide with horror and she appeared to shrink from sadness. As he narrated the events, her fists clenched and her body shook lightly with rage. Her hair crackled with the power of her magic. She whipped out her wand. "Pans..." he muttered. "Don't you Pans me, Draco Malfoy. They will pay for this. Nobody hurts my friends and gets away with it. Those bloody stuck up homophobes" she sputtered. "Where is..." Draco rasped. "Aguamenti" and a stream of water trickled from a wand. A familiar wand made of holly and Phoenix feather. Their eyes met and so much passed between them, unspoken. A thousand promises made in those green eyes gleaming with grief. Harry Potter knew only too well the pain of losing family. "From now on, we will be each other's family" he vowed fervently, stroking the blond's hair. "I love you" was the last thing Draco heard before exhaustion overtook him.
