I pulled up to the alleyway, and my engine screeched to a halt. Damn. The engine overheated. It was dark, and quiet. Too quiet. Something didn't seem right. But I had to take a chance (card), and see what awaited me at the other end. In all my years of driving vintage miniature racecars, I've seen some strange things in these alleyways. Tax collectors, bank errors, beauty contests. One time I even saw a thimble elected chairman of the board. No word of a lie.
As I looked around the alleyway, I found a metal file, the kind used for filing through rivets and iron bars. "Iron bars…" I thought. "This would be a great way to GET OUT OF JAIL FREE". I pocketed the file and sat down in my car, waiting for the engine to cool down. Suddenly, I froze. Footsteps. Footsteps coming from behind. I tried to calm myself, focusing on the steps, and realized that something was odd about them. As I looked in the rear-view mirror to see who the sound was coming from, I was shocked to discover they came not from a persons feet, but from a shoe. A single shoe, with no foot inside. The shoe turned the corner and I heard the footsteps come to a halt. I lay a hand on the radiator, and reeled back in pain. Damn. Still hot.
What I saw next cannot truly be described in words alone. Suffice to say, a dog walked into the alley, and the next moment a train pulled up in the alley. "Come TAKE A RIDE ON THE READING!" the conductor yelled, "If we pass GO, everyone on board wins a 200$ prize!". The dog jumped into the passenger car, and moments later the train took off. Just like the roads, the train tracks in this town were all one-way, so even though the Reading Railroad was only two blocks south of here, it was going to be a full-length round-trip around the circumference of town. I shrugged, and tried the ignition again. It sputtered, coughed, and gave it everything it had, but my little car still wouldn't move. I would have to wait a while yet.
