John looked over the selection in front of him. He'd eaten the chocolate creme-filled donuts the week before after being rejected for a date. He'd had the plain, glazed donut a few days later to celebrate avoiding that same person, who turned out to be a vindictive bitch.

All that was left now was a strawberry surprise, a kind that John saved for special occassions. He had one when his last divorce was finalized, though it was a different kind. He wondered if he'd like this one as his phone rang.

"Munch."

"We've got a case, John. Come by the station as soon as you can," Cragen responded. John sighed.

"I'm getting breakfast now, so it might take a few minutes."

"If you're going to be late, you might as well get something for everyone," Cragen replied. "Just hurry. Flash your badge if you need a rush."

John understood their needs, but he couldn't decide on his own. Right beside the strawberry surprise donuts were some sprinkled delicacies, and more flavors that he hadn't seen before.

"Sir, could you please decide? I need to close soon," the owner whispered. John noticed the black clothes sitting in the back room while he watched the assistants take up a few dozen donuts for a delivery. He also noticed the time, and he agreed with the person. He did need to decide.

"Two dozen plain," John whispered. He watched her gather the donuts while he glanced back at the sprinkled donuts. A chocolate one with shreaded coconut and chocolate sprinkles caught his eye, but so did the one beside it, a chocolate donut with a caramel glaze and chocolate sprinkles.

"Sir, is that all?" the owner asked impatiently.

"One of each of those," John pointed. The owner stiffled a sigh as John went to the cash register with his twenty. He knew the two dozen would be around ten, but the two on their own would push him to fifteen or so. John wasn't one for tips, but he knew this woman was going through a rough time.

"Fourteen-fifty," she whispered. John handed her the twenty and accepted his packages. He began to walk away. "Sir, you get change."

"Keep it," John smiled, opening the door and walking away.
