The wind blew and the sun set. Rain started to sprinkle and the grass started to dampen. Many mysteries surrounded The Island, but Mother Nature still looked down on it. With a flick of her wrist, wind blew and sent a swift gust throughout The Island. The wooden door to Jacob's cabin swung open, and then shut again, leaving an eerie thud to echo. Jacob sat in his rocking chair and stared into space; he just let his mind wonder. His father paced next to him. He looked very impatient and took very long strides in his gait. Jacob's father coughed into his hand and then wiped his hand on his plain black shirt. Oddly enough, the father looked the same age as his son.
"You know what that's from, right?" asked Jacob.
"Oh, shut it. My body is just getting used to the serum. Remember Richard? When Eloise first gave Alpert that serum, his body reacted like you wouldn't imagine," the father explained. He grabbed his stomach and closed his eyes in pain.
"Why did you take the serum in the first place? Richard was stupid. He took it from Eloise without permission. He drank it because he simply wanted to see what it would do. He was young and stupid at the time. You're not! You're better than this. Now we know that the serum gives the drinker immortality. Why would you want that? Do you want to live to see the Black Rock crew die, like how you saw mother die?" Jacob remained in his rocking chair and kept a calm poker face.
"It's all for the greater good, Jacob. I need to see that you do what's right for your island."
"What will you do if I don't? Kill me?" Jacob joked.
"It depends on what you choose…and who you choose to bring here. You are in control now. It is up to you to make the right decisions. You have more control than you think, you just don't know it yet," the father said.
