Adversity
With clean sweeps of the "Maybelline" eyeliner pencil, black rimmed the lids of wide doe brown eyes softly, lightly cat-eyed near the ends and just barely reaching the tear duct. She smoothed it down with another, yet thinner, coat before pulling away, finished. She dropped the pencil back into her makeup bag and plucked out mascara to swipe over her long eyelashes, coating them darker to compliment each dark iris.
Cat was getting ready to go to Jade's house where the rest of the gang was waiting - even the new girl, Tori was there much to Jade's dislike - but admittedly she really wasn't in the mood. It wasn't her bipolar mood swings talking either, nor was it the weather (the sun beamed proudly upon Los Angeles California anyway), it was the simple fact of what day it was.
September 11, 2010.
It was nine years since the fall of the Twin Towers, and nine years and the anniversary of her father's death.
After leaving Roma Italy, where she was born, the Valentine family had moved to New York City when she was just seven years old because her father Gianni had been offered a high paying job at the World Trade Center, and it was an offer the family just couldn't refuse. Cat of course, was more than ecstatic to be moving the United States, something she's always fantasized about; they had Broadway there, and as one might have guessed, that was younger Cat's biggest dream.
Three thirds of the Valentine family watched from their flat miles off as the Twin Towers were attacked in tears. Mr. Valentine never came home. Then, they moved to California, where Cat grew up in Beverly Hills (where she met Jade) until she had moved to Los Angeles to attend for Hollywood Arts.
Cat pulled away from the mirror with a light grin tugging at the corner of plushy, glossy lips. She smoothed down her bright magenta hair and stared at herself, parting her lips to softly murmur;
"Happy birthday to me"
Sorry this isn't so good, and really it's meant to be a drabble. But regardless I hope you liked/enjoyed it! I originally wrote this because of the whole tragedy that happened 10 years ago and also, because it's my birthday, and I thought I should post something for both occasions.
