Her laughter is falling leaves.
Her smiling is blooming flowers.
Her voice is swaying snowflakes.
And… He's nothing but a killing machine, unworthy of her affections. Even though her eyes were tainted, her hands were clean of blood unlike his hands, which were stained with the foul crimson stench.
She was his responsibility… to be protected by him, thus the distance between them were lengthened to avoid unnecessary obstacles, but an invisible thread would pull her back to him. Through thick and thin, sun and snow, rejections and drawbacks, she would always be by his side, loving him.
Loving… he was incapable of doing that. Was he? Or has the early role of Okashira forced him to lock up all possibilities of the human nature? Were they just not present during his childhood, which caused him to be what he is now? Or was he just… making excuses? All humans had feelings, to express and receive… was that not correct? But then why is it so hard to just tell her that he 'loved' her?
That black void… that avoided section of his heart and soul. Was that his fears? His emotions? These pieces of him were laying still… untouched by his soul for many years now. But was he ready to explore them once more?
"—And Okina decided that we should close the Aoiya for the Autumn Harvest Festival. Are you going Aoshi-sama?" The young kunoichi asked hesitantly.
"… Would you like me too, Misao?" The former leader of the Oniwabanshuu asked.
A bright smile from those rosebud lips and those twinkling eyes were enough to answer his question.
So yes… he decided that it was time to blow away the dust and pick up from where they were packed away. It would take time to adjust... but in the end it would be worth it. Because… He would be doing it this for girl in front of him, his friends and for himself.
