I was just a little boy,
Lost and lonely,
In a house that,
Never understood me.
Then on a business meeting,
His father brought him,
And we got along but I didn't think,
That I'd ever see him again.
Then he came another time and more,
And although our fathers rowed,
We were the only friend the other had,
So we made a vow.
We said I promise to protect you,
And I'll be there 'til the end,
And I never break a promise,
I'll always be your friend.
The world got old and we grew older,
And our fathers still hated each other,
But we never cared about them anyway,
We had one another.
'Cos we'd said I promise to protect you,
And I'll be there 'til the end,
And I'll never break a promise,
You'll always come first, my friend.
The world is cruel in its own way,
It took the life of Vegeta's wife,
He tried to cover his feelings,
But I knew he was dying inside.
I'd go to the funeral but my father said,
"If you do this for that saiyans,
You can get up and leave,
And don't expect me to call you my son."
And Vegeta said to me,
"You don't have to come, stay at home,
I know what your father told you,
I'll be alright on my own."
I stared long and hard at him,
And looked into his eyes,
And I smiled at my best friend,
And to him I replied,
I promised to protect you,
And I'll be there 'til the end,
And I never break a promise,
I'll be at the funeral, my friend.
I stayed at his for a while,
I was the godfather of his baby,
But I couldn't help but feel,
Like I was in the way.
I told him I was gonna leave,
And he said "You do no such thing,
You were right there for me,
And you'll stay here as long as you need.
'Cos I promised to protect you,
And I'll be there 'til the end,
And I never break a promise,
You can stay here, my friend."
Well times have changed since those days,
I've moved out and Vegeta's died,
I still remember seeing him,
And hearing the last words he cried.
"I'll give you my son please protect him,
I want you to be there 'til the end,
And I know you won't break a promise,
So I can trust you, my friend."
With a saddened smile I looked at him,
And slowly I nodded my head,
"I promise you can trust me,
So goodbye, my friend."
But one day some time ago my godchild,
He ran away from home,
I spent hours looking for him,
And found him sitting all alone.
So I sat there beside him,
And said "What's going on?
It's getting dark and everyone's wondering,
Just where the heck you've gone."
And he stared back up at me,
And said "I miss my daddy,
Now that he's gone who's gonna,
Take care of me?"
I just smiled back down at him,
And then I hugged him tight,
And said, "Don't worry about a thing,
I'll protect you with my life."
I promised him I'd protect you,
So I'll be there 'til the end,
And don't you worry,
I never break a promise,
And I love you, my friend.
