Disclamer: I don't own Red vs Blue. I only own my OC Samson Winters.
This is an AU from Max's True Family so please enjoy. It's set a few days before they find the Alpha, right before he get's his chest scar and loses the top half of his right pinky finger.
It was a simple day when it happened. All it was gonna be was a normal training session. This is what happened on that very sad day.
Abord the Mother of Invention.
Agent's Winters and Tex were deadlocked in a blade battle. On their last misson they found a crate full of the swords asnd decided to try them out as soon as they were given the O.K. As soon as they were, three days later by the way, both of them wanted to have some fun so they booked the training area for the full day. As the lighted blades started to flicker out from use both Freelancers skidded back about twenty-five feet. Breathing heavily, Sam spoke first, "What's wrong Tex, getting tried already, I thought that you were the best. I'm the third best but I just might become the best if this is really all that you've got." He mocked his friend as she replied back: "Really Sam, is that all that you can muster? I thought SPARTAN's were better then us normal humans."
"Just because I'm fifteen times stronger, faster and smarter dosent mean that I can't use a level of speach that won't confuse the rest of you. Now shut up and fight."
He tells her as they take one last charge at each other. As the gap between them grows smaller they each ready them selfs for one final swing. Sam attacks first and hits the grown woman in the side. His blade's power fades away as Tex swung her sword at Sam and hit him dead on... in the chest and came out the other side. Sam then stopped moving as soon as the blade went through his heart and lost his grip on his blade hilt.
"T-tex?" The twelve year old Freelancer asked his friend as the blade shorted out. She dropped the hilt and caught him from hitting the floor as the rest of their freinds looked on with shocked and terrified expressions on their faces.
"Sam, I'm so sorry." She chocked out as she removed his helmet to look him in the eyes. The rest of the group could hear every word that was being said.
"Wh-why Tex?" He sturggled to ask as blood started to go down the sides of his mouth.
"I didn't mean to."
"Get the rest down here, please." He says as they began the trek to the arena.
As his sight begins to darken he hears them stop above him. "We're here Sam." Carolina tells him as she, Wash and the rest of them got on the floor beside him.
"Really? Where are you? I can't quite make out where you guys are standing. All I can see are a bunch of dark shapes."
"We're right beside you buddy." Wash told the kid as he held his right hand between his own.
"Sam, keep your eyes open. The medics on the way." York told his 'little brother'.
"Just hold on kid." North said as he tried to keep Sam awake. Maine also tried to help by keeping his head leveled as South just stayed quiet, not quiet knowing what to say or do.
"Don't give up old boy. We still have a lot of knock knock jokes to tell each other." Wyoming said as he tried to fight back the tears that were forming in his eyes.
"I don't think I can keep going, it hurts so much." He said as blood kept pouring onto the floor. "Listen, I want all of you to promise me one thing, please."
"What is it Sam?" Carolina asked, being the only one to hold back her tears but still having the same sad look on her face. What ever it was, they would keep the promise.
"You know my brother, Caboose, right? I want you to watch out for him until he's old enough to be on his own. He's only ten and needs to know what happened to me.
Before you say anything Tex, I don't blame you. I just had to challenge you to a fight. It's stupid I know but you know I love fighting, but, not quiet as much as I love all of you. Your all my real family as much as Caboose is and I thought that you should know that. Will you guys please be his family as much as you've been mine?
" He asks them as they all shear a nod together before Wash tells him, "We will Sam. For you."
"Good. That's all that I needed to know." He says right before his eyes close for the last time. They all saw the sad smile that was on his face as all of them, even Tex and Carolina, cried in that one moment together.
One week later.
The mess hall was quiet without the Freelancers youngest member. Agent Winters' body had been sent to the U.N.S.C. where they told Caboose about his only brother's death. He cried his eyes out as his best friend, John-117, stayed with him the whole time. Their parents were also devistated by this news. The group all shared the same thoughts about this: They'd never see their 'little brother' again. They'd never hear him rush into the room asking them to see his favorite show with him, he'd never train with them, comfort them when they had a problem or hang out and just talk. Carolina is the first one to speak. "Well then, what should we do now? We need to get our minds off of Sam."
"That's what we're trying to do Carolina." South said in a bitter tone. She may not have liked Sam much but she was still sad to see him gone. After all, he was one of them.
"Shut up South."
"You gonna make me Carolina?" She asks as they both get up and head towards each other, only for Wash, North and Wyoming to stop them. "Calm down South, now!" North yelled at his twin sister.
"No! I need to show her the pain I feel right now."
"We all feel that pain South. I feel it more then the rest of you do." Tex said.
"You should. You did kill Sam after all." She says right before she's grabed by the head and thrown into the wall.
"Shut the fuck up before I end you South. Say one more word, I fucking dare you." Tex tells her as she walks out of the room with Carolina and Wash right behind her as the rest of the group checks up on South.
"What the Hell was that?" Carolina asked her 'mother' as they kept walking.
"You heard what she said. I won't let her tell me that I killed Sam. I know I did."
"Don't blame yourself Tex," Wash started to say, "He didn't blame you. We all heard him say the same thing." the man said as he stopped talking. As the door to the training room opened up she told them, "I just can't do that Wash." As they enter the training room they see a see-through version of Sam wearing all of his armor but his helmet looking right at them. As soon as they run up to speak with him he vanishs in a small cloud of smoke.
With York and the rest of the group.
After getting South to the med-bay and checked up they all stop when they all see the same see-through form of Sam walking around a corner so they all rush after him,
only for him to be replaced by Tex, Carolina and Wash.
"You guys see him too?" Wash asked.
"Yeah, we just saw him walk around this corner."
"We first saw him in the training room." Carolina said.
"It seems that the old boy's ghost is leading us somewhere." Wyoming said. The 'ghost' shows up again and points at a hallway leading to the rooms. "Is that where your leading us Sam?" North asks right before the 'ghost' nods his head and fades away again.
"Well then, I guess we're gonna go inside Sam's old room." Wash said as they started to walk. Nobody said a word the whole time until the 'ghost' once again pointed it's finger inside. As Tex opened the door they entered one-by-one until the door reclosed behind them. The 'ghost' pointed to it's old computer and right at the note that was left on the screen. It said: 'Only for the eye's of my closted friends. Please don't tell anyone for as to what your about to see and hear. Go on my old computer and look for the file called My Final Thoughts. My password is Win.'
"Should we?" York asked his friends.
"Sam did wrote it down saying that we need to hear what he recorded."
"Let's take a vote here. Who thinks we should not look at Sam's final thoughts?" Tex asked. North, Wyoming and Maine raised their hands. "Who's for looking at Sam's final thoughts?" She asked again. Her, Wash and York raised their hands.
"What about you Carolina?" York asked as they saw her deep in thought with one hand on her chin as she looked up.
"I think that... we should look at what Sam left for us."
"Alright then. Let's see what our dear brother left us." Tex said as she took the chair and they waited until the password was typed in and they looked for the video.
After about ten seconds of waiting an image of the ex pre-teen Freelancer pops up. He wearing his normal outfit which can be found in Max's True Family. "'Hi guys.
Well, I'm not really good at this so I'll just get down to it. If you are watching this video then I'm dead. I'm sure I went like a badass or like a total wimp. I don't care witch one it is since I won't there to hear about it right, hehe.'" He says as they all smile at that. "'Anyway, who do I talk about first? Ah yes, Wash.
Also know as one of my 'older' brothers. Whenever you and I hang out it's like being with Caboose. Except that I'm Caboose is me and Wash is me. Your always helping me when I'm in trouble. Like that time I 'set' fire to the mess hall.'"
"That really happen?" York asked.
"Yeah. I covered for him in exchange for a week of shuting up. He lasted only two days."
"'Next is York, your the one I'd call, a great guy. Remember the time that we drilled a hole into the females side of the locker room? That was awsome. I loved the part when we almost got caught. Thanks again for letting me have the first peep. And for as to who I saw I won't say anything. That's a promise that will stay between brothers.'" He says as Carolina and Tex cornered him.
"It was just to teach him about the other sex."
"He was a SPARTAN, he already knew about the other sex." Carolina said as north held her back and Wyoming and Maine did the same with Tex.
"Let's get back to it shall we?" Wash asked as he took the chair.
"'Here's something for you Maine, or as I called you: the 'Silent Giant'. You'd teach me about your fighting moves with the same zero-to-two worded grunts. I remember when I did your throwing move agenst you. You almost killed me right then and there. I'm glad you didn't though. Thanks for that pal, and also, stay huge and silent.'"
Maine nods his head downwards as they look at him. "'Now I hope that North and South are here for this, unless if, you know, Carolina and/or Tex did something cool and fun enough to get them to not be here. If their not here then please don't tell them that. If they are here then i'm sorry for saying that and hope that you two keep being the best twins I've ever known. Even though your the only set of twins that I've met.'"
"That was nice of him to say."
"It really was. I should have been nicer to him."
"You really should have." Tex said.
"'Woyming, my British buddy, I loved it when we would tell each other knock knock jokes all the time. I never got tried of them even when every one else in our group did. I want you to look in my 'joke file' that I made just for you. Here's to you mate.'" He says as he does a cheers motion while the man smiles at that.
"Don't worry old boy, I'll use them on our friends."
"No you won't!" All of the other members of the group say at the same time as he covers his ears.
"'Agent Texas, or as I and the rest of our group calls you, Tex, I want you to know that I saw you as a mom. You'd always let me do things that the others weren't alowed to do. You showed me how to clean my combat knife in a way that would make it look like gold but not break right away. And as to why you let me throw it at you until I hit you I'll never know. Thanks for being a second mom. Stay like that, it sutes you.'"
"Wow." Was all that she, and the rest, could say.
"Were you really like that with him?" Carolina asked.
"Yeah. I wish that I could be like that to him at least one more time." She said as a single tear rolled down her face.
"Last one." Wash said as he hit the 'play' button.
"'Now, here's the best for last: Carolina, what can I say about my favorite redhead with green eyes? Not much but here's what I got. You were the first Freelancer that I met. I know that you, Wash, York, North and South were all there but you were the one who spoke to me first. I had a small crush on you since I first saw you but the thing about me being half your age sucked. If I were ten years older I would have asked you out on a date. I wonder, if that was the case instead of this one, what would have been your anwser? Yes, or no?'" He asks as they all, minus him of course, look at the readhead as she looked at the paused image of him. "Sam, I would have given you a chance. We were friends. Sorry for not being a better one." She says to the 'say what', look of all but her mother and Wash.
"There's one last thing." Wash told them as they gather as close to the screen as they could without shoving each other out of the way.
"'Now that that's all taken care of I only have one question for all of you: Can you forgive me for all of the rotten stuff I did to all of you?'" The image of Sam asked as he just sat there right before the video stopped.
"Yes Sam, we forgive you." All of them said at the same time.
"Good. That's all that I needed to know." Said the voice of the real Sam as he smirked and walked into his room.
"WHAT?!" Shouted everyone else in the room as they jumped in shock at seeing their kid 'brother' standing right there in front of them in the doorway.
"Sam, h-how are you here? I thought I killed you?" Tex said, stunned for once.
"No, you did not Tex. I just pranked all of my closed friends at once. Haha, fuck yes." He shouted in joy as he pumped his right fist into the air as high as he could.
"And before any of you ask how I did it I'll tell you. After we came back from our last mission I asked the Director if I could do this little idea and he said yes. He told me that it would be good to 'get the rest of the group to feel the pain of losing a member.' So I weaked the blades down to a non-deadly setting and let myself get 'stabed and killed' by Tex. After that I told my brother and parents about this and they hated the idea but wanted to see how it would go. So, what did you all think about my prank? Pretty funny right? Guys?" He asks as they all get closer to him. "It was just a prank guys. No harm done. Right? Ahehe." the twelve year old pre-teen freelancer laughed nervously while rubbing the back of his head with one hand as they all rushed right at him, only for him to run like hell as they kept chasing him all night long. The only two things that could be heard that night was Sam's laughter and the shouting of his 'adopted' family.
So what did all of you think about my first oneshot? I hope that you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writeing it. So until next time everybody, thanks for reading and please leave a review. Later.
