We sit, on the beach together like it should have been. I look up to see her gazing in the distance. "Annie" I say and she looks up at me with those beautiful green eyes. "What?" she asks. I take a strand of her beautiful brown hair and stroke it in my hand, "I love you." She smiles, a smile that could be deadly, "I love you too" she says. I smile back and keep my gaze on her beautiful eyes. She turns away and starts to get up. "Where are you going?" I ask. She looks at me with sad eyes, "I have to go now" she says. She turns around and starts to walk away.
I can't let her go I think to myself. I get up and follow her. "Annie" I say. She turns around and looks at me with those sad eyes. "I'll always love you" I tell her. "I know" she says with a half-smile, tears starting to form in her eyes. I take my hand and wipe the tears, "don't cry" I tell her. "He needs you" she said and I knew right then she was talking about our son. I looked up into her eyes, "tell him I love him" I say. "He already knows" she replies. I smile, "I wish I could just see him one time" I say. She smiles, "he has your eyes." She starts to walk away again and I knew I couldn't follow. "Annie" I say one last time. She turns around and looks at me. "Want a sugercube" I ask, holding out a sugercube to her. She laughs a laugh that sounded like music to my ears, if only I could hear it again. And then she walks away but not before I hear her say, "If only this wasn't a dream."
