AN: This is just a breif story on what I think happened every time Lucius found out that Hermione did better than Draco in exams. Also a tiny bit of Draco crushing on Hermione since well I AM a Dramione shipper!

The world of Harry Potter belongs to J.K. Rowling. I am NOT J.K. Rowling

Draco paced in his bedroom with the results of the previous years exams in his hands. His thoughts were focused on one thing: Hermione Granger. The mudblood had beaten him yet again. His father was going to be pissed!

Draco began to mutter under his breath, "irritating bucktoothed, bushy-haired, beautiful, know-it-all!" Draco stopped and mentally slapped himself. He could not let his thoughts gather on how beautiful he thought Granger was. That would be as good as signing his own death warrant.

Draco really wanted to complain that life was not fair. But he was a Malfoy, there was no point in whinging about not being the best, there was only accepting the consequences that his father would dole out for his failure to beat the mudblood in every test. He knew this was going to be a bad one, three years running he has been second best. He father stopped only verbally chastising him after first year. Now, he liked to use his fists and wand to punish his son.

The first time Granger beat him, he tried to tell his father that "I am the best pure-blood" but that only seemed to make things worse. Draco was sure that telling his father "some people are born to be first, others are not" would land him in St. Mungo's and his father in Azkaban for almost killing him.

Draco really didn't want to live up to his father's expectations. His father was a horrible person, father, and husband. Yet Draco did not really want to get beaten for failing his father. A House-Elf popped into Draco's room. "Young Master, the Master will be seeing you now!"

Draco felt himself breaking out in a sweat and wanted to allow himself to have a panic attack. Instead, he slowly walked to his father's study. This was going to be bad.

It was worse than bad. Draco should have been transported to the hospital, but his father would not allow his mother to do so, stating "My son is not good enough to beat a worthless mudblood at simple school tests then he is not good enough to receive medical treatment for his injuries."

It took three days for Draco to regain consciousness. In that time, his mother had snuck into his room and healed some of the more dangerous injuries. Draco opened his eyes and assessed himself. It was times like these that Draco hated his father, and also hated Granger for besting him. Yet, he was also proud of Granger, if his father wasn't such a stuck in the past blood-elitist, maybe the fact that a muggle born witch was so amazing when it came to magic would begin to change the old man's mind about muggle-borns. "Wow, I was hit harder than I thought!" Draco said to himself. He knew his father would always think pure-bloods were the only type of wizards worth anything.

Draco resigned himself to trying harder in the upcoming school year. He knew that this upcoming year would be interesting with the Tri-Wizard Tournement happening, but he really didn't think he would survive another beating from his father. He knew he had to focus on studies and hopefully this year he could forget the secret crush he developed on Granger in the last year. "I need to beat her this time, or it will be the death of me."
