The day slowly came to an end, when Legolas, son of Thranduil, opened his eyes. He tried to focus, but a terrible pain in his head and left side made it nearly impossible.
What had happened?
Where was he?
A sharp stitch of a memory, like a lightening, strucked through his mind.
The Battle. The Five Armies, fighting each other. The air full of screams, screams filled with desperation, anger and fear. Dead elves, men, and orcs everywhere.
Elves.
Tauriel.
Legolas eyes widened in panic.
Where was she?
The last time he had seen the captain, she fired a deadly arrow against one of the orcs.
No, no. She had to be alive. No creature, not even such a brutal one like an orc would be able to harm the skilled, red-haired elleth, of which Legolas had grown fond more than he probably should.
He needed to find her.
The elf got up, ignoring the pain his hole body sent to his brain. Now he realized, where he was.
Right in the middle of the battlefield.
Trying not to look at the faces of his dead friends, he stumbled over the blood-soaked ground.
The light faded more, from second to second it became darker, but Legolas did not give up.
Then he saw her.
Red hair, pieces of dirt, and splashes of blood in it. Her left hand still holding her bow, an arrow in the other one, ready to shoot. Her eyes open, the view empty, shocked.
And right in her heart, a dagger.
Legolas he fell to his knees. He felt like his sould was split into parts. His eyes filled with tears, and a loud cry of despair left his lips.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Ion-nin. Come with me."
Turning around, he saw his father, kneeling behind him. Thranduils robe didn't look different than the ground they sat on, a bleeding scratch parted the skin on his cheek. He looked tired, tired and hopeless.
Following his sons glance to Tauriel, he closed his eyes for a moment.
"I know, how you felt for her, penneth."
He leaned forwards, placed his arms around his son, and slowly petted his hair. "But there is nothing left you can do."
Then the last light of the day disappeared behind to mountians..
