Dash was lying in bed when he heard it. A soft but insistent rapping at his window. It startled him, as his room was on the second story, and he dropped the magazine he was reading into his lap. After a moment, he threw the magazine aside and got up and pulled back the curtain.
Outside floating in front of the window was a teary-eyed Danny. Dash could see him rubbing his nose with a gloved hand. Dash opened the window and beckoned Danny in.
"You know you coulda just went through the wall, right?" Dash said, but when Danny gave no response, he grabbed the other boys hand and pulled him back to sit on the bed.
"What's wrong?"
At the question, Danny's eyes filled with tears again and he flung himself at Dash, wrapping his arms around Dash's shoulders as Danny sobbed into his chest.
Dash hushed him, wrapping his arms around Danny, rubbing his hand comfortingly against his back. He kissed the top of Danny's head and buried his nose in his hair.
They sat like that for a few minutes until Danny calmed down and could whisper.
"They found out."
Dash's blood ran cold at Danny's words, his heart beating faster in his chest. He swallowed past a lump of fear in his throat before croaking out what they both knew.
"Your parents?"
Danny nodded into his chest before looking into Dash's eyes with his own tear-filled orbs.
"When they found out… They came after me. If Jazz hadn't been home, I would've been… They would've…" Danny choked on another sob as it climbed its way out of his throat.
Dash pulled him back to his chest. "It's okay. You're okay now, Danny."
At this Danny shook his head.
"My parents will find me if I stay in Amity Park. I'm going into the ghost zone to stay with Frostbite in the Far Frozen."
Everything is Dash's mind stopped. Danny was leaving.
"What about school? You won't graduate. Won't Jazz, Sam, and Tucker miss you? What about the town?" Dash listed frantically.
Danny smiled sadly at Dash.
"We all know I wasn't really going anywhere after high school at the rate I was going… And Sam, Tucker, and Jazz know what they're doing. They'll protect the town…"
He stood up and started to back away towards Dash's window where the curtains were billowing in the breeze. They stayed like that for a few moments, looking at one another, before Dash stood up and made his way to Danny and kissed him.
His hands fell to Danny's waist as Danny's hands cradled the nape of Dash's neck. It was long and slow and they savored the kiss. Soon though, Danny began pulling away, Dash trailing after him, feet floating off the ground as he got closer to the window. Dash pulled him back though, placing more quick pecks on Danny's lips, desperately trying to get more time.
Danny kissed him one last time before whispering, "Dash, I'm sorry."
He went intangible and ghosted through Dash's hands, eyes filled with tears as he floated out the window. Danny waved a sad goodbye, before flying off and turning invisible in the night sky.
Dash stared through the open window, tears making their way down his face, as he watched the boy who stole his heart disappear.
