"Hiei."
I opened my eyes lazily, and looked down. Sure enough, the fox is standing there, this time not a figment of my imagination. The waning sunlight of Ningenkai shone upon him, bringing out the sheer beauty from within him.
"Hiei?"
He's staring now, partly confused, partly …embarrassed? A blink and the embarrassment is gone, leaving only the confused look behind.
I did what I'm best at; I put on an annoyed look and said in my usual flat voice.
"Hn. What do you want?"
The mischievous yet gentle smile is back, making him look positively innocent and ravishing at the same time. He climbed nimbly up to the highest branches and sat beside me.
"Nothing."
"Hn."
Silence reigns for those precious moments, soothing and comforting. Both of us, in this weird and alien world, watched the source of light settle down for the day. Shadows lengthened slowly, and I turned to where the shadow of your hand lay.
I knew I should have resisted. But on its own accord, my hand moved and lay upon the meager replacement of your slender ones.
Someday.
Someday, I'll hold your hand in mine without hesitation.
