A/N - short...
I do not own Harry Potter, I merely play with them, JK Rowling does own Harry Potter and she's a lucky thing!
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came
"Severus to Lily, come in Lily," he spoke softly, waving his hand in front of the red haired girls face.
"What? Oh I'm sorry Sev. Didn't mean to zone out then," she responded, shaking her head and smiling up at him.
"Didn't you say you wanted to talk to me? What about?" Severus tried not to glare at the male Gryffindor that had captured Lily's shy attention. He watched them smile at each other politely, Lily sort of staring off to the left.
"I just wanted to talk about the Potions homework. I know that I should have understood it, but I didn't," Lily tried to lie, clearly seeing that Severus was having none of it.
"You're a horrible liar Lily, has anyone ever told you that?" he teased, capturing her full attention when he pulled out his battered potions book.
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
somewhere along in the bitterness
and I would have stayed up with you all night
had I known how to save a life
Severus stole around the dim potions lab, catching green eyes so much like Lily's staring at him.
"Ten points from Gryffindor, Potter," he snapped, inwardly smirking as there was a collective sigh from the smattering on Gryffindors in the class, "today we will be brewing Polyjuice Potion. Turn to page 225 and start reading. Granger, I realise that it takes a month to brew. Put your hand down."
He heard the brunette Gryffindor huff under her breath, taking the time to revel in the silence of the class. Able to reflect on his memories of Lily once more.
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defence
without granting innocence
lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God, he hears you
And pray to God, he hears you
Severus watched Lily and Potter from afar. He had lost her friendship not too long after their talk. He regretted calling her a Mudblood, and probably always will. Like the rest of the students every time that they argued over a prank Potter had cooked up and performed, Severus always rolled his eyes and always hoped she would put him in his place. Severus was dismayed each time they made up. He missed her laugh and smile.

Severus was glad when the day was over; able to retreat to his quarters and brood over the lost love he never had.
"And now you're dead, all because James was so damn convincing," he growled into the roaring fire, once again losing himself in his thoughts.
