A Little Light In The Dark

Summary: Nathan Bridger never expected to see a small child sleeping under the slide in the same park he once took his son to along time ago. This is the story of how Lucas Wolenczak became Lucas Bridger.

A/N: This story is of course AU and Lucas is about six years old in this story. Story contains Child Abuse, Alcohol use and other stuff. This is my first attempt at a SeaQuest fanfiction so I hope you all enjoy it.

Now on with the Story!!!!

Chapter One: Looking for an Answer

Ever since his son Robert had been declared dead by the UEO six months ago, Nathan Bridger had been looking for an answer. He had never felt so helpless in all of his natural born life. He was forty-two years old and he was all alone. No one should have to bury their child. A child who was only eighteen and who had yet to experiance life the way it should be experianced. His son was gone and his wife was catatonic most of the time and when she wasn't, she blamed him.

Nathan was tired. He was so very tired of the fights he and his wife would start over the stupidest little thing when they needed to show some emotion. He didn't want them to fight, but that didn't mean she had to point out every single time that it was his fault. He knew it. He knew it was his fault that he let his son follow in his footsteps. The very same footsteps that got his son killed while on board a UEO battleship. He was tired of living life in a daze while he watched his wife waste away to nothing. Nathan knew it soon would be Carol's time to leave him too. She was getting sicker and sicker every single day. He would soon be left alone in this large and depressing world and he knew he could be blamed for that too. Nathan soon turned to alcohol to try and ease the pain for when it happened. So when it finally did happen, he barely noticed.

Having to bury his son first and now his wife, Nathan became a man who was angry at the world. A world which was unfair in his lonely eyes. He would ask himself time and time again when he was sober, if there was really any good left in the world. When he couldn't think of an excuse for the world, he would get drunk again and blame it even more for it's unfairness.

He was at the bottom of a new bottle every night now, but the pain never ceased like it did in the beginning, so he moved to two bottles. One for the morning and one for the night. There was never a moment in his days now when he had to think. Thinking always led to something bad, like thoughts of his deceased wife and son. When he slept, they blamed him. When he was sober, he thought of them. When he was drunk, he forgot them.

His friends had tried to get him to open up, to stop his drinking, but none of it worked. What Nathan needed was an answer to his question. He told his friends that once he found the answer then he would stop it all. Until then he wanted nothing to do with the world. So he stayed away from it for the next six years, alone on his little island. Till his friend Bill Noyce pulled him from his own personal hell and accidently into someone elses.

This is where our story begins.....
