*Deepest desire*

Albus Dumbledore was walking along one of the many dark corridors of Hogwarts castle. He knew in his heart that where he was heading for, was wrong. In fact he had told young Harry the same thing not long ago, don't linger too long, sinking in dreams that can never come true. However, he could not stop himself chasing the impossible dream.

He stopped in silence. He turned towards the door on his side, opened it and entered the room. The room was completely empty except for a mirror standing against the opposite wall. The mirror was taller than a man and engraved with symbols and a text written in a foreign language. It said:

Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt onwoshi

Dumbledore walked closer to it, his reflection growing with every step he took nearer. When he was only a few inches from the looking glass, his feet stopped moving and his eyes stared into the nothingness. Then suddenly, figures appeared around him in his reflection. Albus blinked, but didn't remove his gaze. The figures grew clearer and were now recognizable. In total there were four, a man and woman and a teenage boy and younger girl. They clearly were a family, moreover, they were Albus' family.

It were his father and mother standing behind him, smiling at all their children. The teenage boy and girl were both wearing Hogwarts robes with the Gryffindor colours on them. Both also with a smile on their face. Albus' face turned to a smile as well looking at them, and at the same time tears welled up in his eyes.

'I am so sorry,' he whispered, 'I wish I could have changed what happened and that we could just have been a happy family without secrets.'

The mere pictures in the mirror just kept standing there with smiles on their faces. It was no more the ghost of a past dream which never turned out to be true. Dumbledore closed his eyes, turned his back on the looking glass and then with firm steps walked out of the room slamming the door behind him. He had to be strong, if Harry could do it so must he. Even if he had to ignore and forget his heart deepest desire to save the present and future wizarding world.
