Max POV
I took in a deep breath as everyone around me sang the closing notes of "Happy Birthday," closed my eyes, and blew out the candles.
"So what'd ya wish for?" Fang whispered next to me.
And you asked me what I want this year,
And I'll try to make this kind and clear,
Just a chance that maybe
We'll find better days.
Angel got excited and handed me a present and begged to open hers first. I wasn't expecting to feel a small object topple into my lap. Reaching down I found a small necklace.
"It's a good-luck charm! I made it myself." She boasted.
"It's beautiful, thank you!" I exclaimed and gave her a big hug.
'Cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings,
Designer love and empty things;
Just a chance that maybe
We'll find better days.

I opened Nudge and Gazzy's presents next. Smiling uncontrollably at the pure joy on all of their faces. Fang then handed me a small package. But good things come in small packages, right?
I hesitantly pulled off the ribbon and opened my box and…
I lost my breath.
It was perfect, gorgeous, unlike anything I ever would have imagined. I quickly slipped the delicate, intricate ring onto my ring finger of my right hand, then realized I needed to thank him.
"You're perfect, as is."
He just always knows exactly what to say doesn't he?"
We scurried to the roof for Gazzy and Iggy's presents, at which point Fang pulled me into his chest. I've never felt more at home or more loved.
I need someplace simple where we could live,

I realized I hadn't even thought about saving the world or anything complicated like that the entire night, and it was great. Everyone I loved was around me and this impending doom of the world ending was the last thing on my mind. Maybe better things are in store for us…

If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them.
