Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Rumiko Takahashi neither in life nor death nor anything else in between.
AN: Though I realize that I have no been updating as frequently as most would like me to I could not help but post this. It came to me not fifteen minutes ago as a plot bunny attack. Before you read this I do warn you that it is very dark and will probably disturb more sensitive readers.
Sweet Consolation
A One Shot
She had been so sure.
She had been so utterly positive that when the time came that he would realize his true feelings and choose her.
She was wrong.
Because upon the defeat of Naraku, Inuyasha had chosen Kikyou, he had chosen to live the remainder of his life with the shell of the woman whom he had once loved.
And there was absolutely nothing that could possibly console the desolate Kagome.
There was nothing that could reach her as her mind went through the dark turmoil that Inuyasha and his new mate had put her through.
Not the sweet voice of the kitsune pup, his words of comfort sliding off of her as if they were liquid.
Not the gentle patting and understanding language of the Taijiya whom she had come to know as her sister.
Or the soft jokes made by the houshi meant the lift the spirits of the young miko he had come to know as family.
So Kagome retreated back to her own time, taking the Shikon jewel with her and leaving her former allies to their own devices. In her on time she remained for days. Slowly, the burning fire of hatred consumed her.
Until one stormy night.
Walking carefully Kagome, swirling darkness in place of her usually bright aura, stepped into the small shrine that enclosed the Bone Eater's Well. Eyes wide and blank she jumped through, and went through the void that would allow her to travel between times.
As Inuyasha gazed out the window he could hear Kikyou's steady movements around their hut. Time and death had changed her and she was no longer the woman that he had fallen in love with. But he had decided, with deadpan determination, to stick by his vows and remain with her. Still, he couldn't help but think of what he had lost.
So distracted in his thoughts was he that he did not pick up on Kagome's scent as she walked dully towards Inuyasha and Kikyou's abode. Not until she had stepped through the threshold.
"Kagome? What's wrong?"
Silent Kagome moved with deadly precision towards Kikyou. In one swift and effortless movement her hand went through her preincarnate's hollow stomach. The motion released the trapped souls within and left the clay-pot woman to crumbling to the ground.
A horrified Inuyasha stepped forward and grabbed the young miko by the shoulders. Raising his voice in a desperate attempt to jar the girl back to her senses.
"KAGOME?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
She whispered her response so softly that he had to lean in further to hear it.
That was when Kagome took her chance and used her an arrow of dark energy to pierce the heart of the man she had loved. The blood of the wound splattered onto her clothes and left Inuyasha with a traumatized look on his face as he sank to his knees.
Laughing insanely Kagome twisted the energy in its place. She dug it in so deep that her hands became saturated in his blood.
Dying, Inuyasha's final sight was that of Kagome smiling in an eerily calm manner as she repeated her answer to his question.
"Consolation…is so sweet."
AN: Yeah…I made her go crazy and kill Inuyasha and Kikyou…I warned you it was dark. Writing this does in no way mean though, that I condone the killing of your ex and the woman he left you for. We've all seen "Snapped."
