Werewolf Hunter, Properly Accessorized

"It's silly. I'm a grown woman."

Becker chuckled. "Mostly."

Jess frowned. "I'm young, but I am an adult. I don't need a babysitter."

"Sorry, Jess, but until we catch whatever the hell attacked my men, you aren't leaving my sight."

She smiled. "Well, I suppose I won't refuse a bodyguard."

He chuckled. "Good."

They walked through the parking area just outside the ARC. They heard a howl. Jess instinctively drew closer to Becker, and he threw himself protectively in front of her. He drew his weapon, a small conventional firearm.

"Maybe Connor's right," she whispered.

Becker scoffed as he scanned the surrounding area. "No way, Jess. Werewolves aren't real."

Just then a gray streak pounced toward them, knocking Becker down. Even as he fell, he pushed Jess away from the predator.

It looked like a giant wolf. Jess screamed as Becker struggled with it. She pulled her comm out.

"We need help…in the outer car park! Becker's under attack!"

A voice came over the frequency. "We see you, Miss Parker," said the field coordinator on duty.

"We're on our way," said Matt.

"Jess, do have anything silver?"

"Seriously…uh….Connor?" asked Becker as he wrestled to keep the fangs from his skin.

"Silver…" said Jess. "Real silver…" Instead she found Becker's gun. She fired, but it had no effect.

"Ah!" cried Becker as the wolf continued to paw and snatch at him. "Hurry!"

Jess looked around frantically.

"Hang on," said Matt over comms.

Becker kicked and hit the wolf. He could feel his strength weakening. "Oh…God!" he cried as the wolf's teeth got closer. "I can't hold it!"

The wolf was gaining the upper hand. It pinned his legs so he couldn't move. It shook to break free of Becker's grip. Any moment it would.

Becker was a dead man and he knew it.

"I'm sorry, Jess," he whispered.

"No!" she cried.

The wolf shook Becker's arms free and moved in for the kill bite.

Instead, a sharp silver shank was shoved through the wolf's neck. It cried in pain. Becker took the opportunity to wriggle free.

Over the wolf stood Jess, wearing only one shoe. The other was lodged inside the beast.

Becker stared with disbelief as slowly the wolf transformed back into a man.

Jess looked stunned.

Becker walked over to her and put his arms around her. She shuddered. "It's a…werewolf."

Becker nodded. "It looks that way. Are you hurt?"

"No. Are you?"

"No. Thanks to you. Jess, you saved my life," he said and looked down at her foot, "…with your shoe."

She nodded. "I did, didn't I? I didn't realize my shoes had real silver in the heels. Lucky, huh?"

Becker laughed. "Functional as well as fashionable. Nice.".

"I wonder if I can get Lester to reimburse me?" she asked. "For at least one shoe."

Becker chuckled. "I'll talk to him. You deserve a pair at least."

She giggled. "I appreciate that."

"It's the least I can do," he said. Then he kissed the top of her head. "You were brilliant. Thank you."

"Anytime. No. I don't mean that. It's asking a bit much to sacrifice my fashions on a regular basis."

He laughed. "I promise not to make it a habit."

"Thank you," she said with a smile.

Matt, Connor and the others ran in and stared at the scene. "Told you: werewolf," said Connor.

"I can't believe it," said Matt. He pulled out the shoe and then he looked at Becker and Jess. "Unbelievable."

Becker smirked. "Why? Haven't you ever seen a werewolf hunter in heels?"

Jess giggled.
