Lavos
By Travithian Axile
Summary: A look into the mind of Lavos.

I have been given many names. I have been Inferno. I have been Ignus. Mars. Even the Devil himself. But the fear inspired by me has always, over the ages, remained unchanged.
I sit, like a king upon his throne, within my armor and smile as my subjects come to me. Emperors of mighty kingdoms and beggars alike grovel at my feet. Their reactions amuse me. Some come in rage, but die before they ever reach me. Some come in worship, but die like the rest in their misguided hope. They are all insects to me—I make no distinction. They all die in fear.
Fear. A curious, intangible emotion I am beyond. But one I enjoy. Twisting the faces of the nameless, faceless people as the fires I command consume them in fatal glory. And the knowledge that it was I who rouses this terror within them makes their screams all the sweeter. It thrills me. Fear is power, and I wield it like a master.
I have forgotten how many worlds I have engulfed in flames. I know no guilt. Were it not for my subtle assistance humanity would never have moved out of their caves to seek a better life. The Reptile Age would have been absolute. History is written by my direction; empires rise and fall by my whim. My gifts, blessing and curse.
Mine to give. Mine to take away.
They come now. Warriors of this world, of different eras, but all common in one respect—they have been touched by me, somehow or other. The hunger in their eyes is familiar. They seek vengeance, as the millions of poor souls before them have. I am unconcerned. I am Lavos; I am supreme; I am immortal.
I smile in amusement. Let them come. Let them die.

Author's Ending Note: Written in a moment of pure angst…please review. Only with your feedback can this humble author hope to improve…and I really need it, because I'm considering a novel-length CT fanfic…
