Chapter 1- Emily took a deep breath and turned the channel. "Emily! Are you coming?", her mother yelled. Emily looked at the TV. Her mother was obsessive compulsive about replying right away and 4 seconds later her mother belted out, "EMILY!" Emily slammed down the remote. "WHAT?" Her mother stomped into the room brushing her blonde hair. "You need to hurry up honey. Your father is going to be here pretty soon." Emily looked at the carpet. "Why did you guys even divorce? We always seem to be going out on outings with him and you never have dates with other guys." Her mother looked at the floor too, as if she was looking for some stains. "Oh Emily. For 16 years, you sure don't know very much." Emily shrugged. "I dunno really." Her mother wiped her brow. "Now hurry up."

15 minutes later the doorbell rang. "Emily! Get that!", her mother shrieked. Emily walked to the chestnut door and opened it to reveal her father standing there with his hands in his pockets. "Hey Daddy!", Emily said as she put her arm around her dad and led him into the house. He seemed like he was being forced. "What's wrong Dad?", Emily asked. Her dad looked at the wall. "Where's Annie? I mean, your mother?" Emily waved toward the bathroom. Her father had a strange look on his face.

Annie must of heard her name and she ran out. "What's going on Carl?" Carl shook his head. "Let's just go to the restraunt.", he said. "But Dad...", Emily looked at her dad with her pleading blue eyes. "Emily. Car. Now." "Daddy!" Annie waved Emily toward the door.

Emily watched the door open and her mother wipe her eyes. "Emily! Get out of the fucking car now!", Annie screamed and tears were running down her face. Emily reached for the door handle. "Mom? What's going on?" Her Dad gently pushed her out of the way and stomped toward the car. "But I want to go with my Dad!", Emily sighed. Emily watched her mother grab her father by his arm and looked like she was whisper yelling. Annie motioned for her daughter to come over. Emily slowly walked over and her father ran to the car and quickly threw it into gear.

Emily looked at her mother, who was laying on the couch crying. "What's wrong Mom? What did Dad do to you?" Annie sat up and patted a spot next to her. "Honey, come sit down next to me so I can talk to you." Emily's stomach dropped. She didn't like this. "Mom... what's happening?" Annie wiped her eyes again. "Emily, baby... Your father is getting married again." Emily didn't see how terribly this was but all she could think of was, "But he just moved out like... 3 months ago." Then it dawned on him. "Mom. Why did you and Dad really break up? I am 16. Please, just tell me." Annie grabbed her forehead. "Remember when you were 8, honey?" Emily did. She wasn't sure if she should anwser the question or not. She nodded. "Remember that night when I told you to go to bed extra early?" Emily nodded.
