The Sleeping Forest – Drabble One-shot
Song: Only Hope
Enough
The rustle of leaves and the fresh scent of flowers in the wind were calming, bringing forth the feeling of peace and serenity, of contentment; dulling the ever present pain in his chest if only for a moment.
It had been months since he had last seen her, the beautiful Princess of the forest.
The hole within his chest refuses to wane, and yet he doesn't mind the ache within his heart.
He had seen her, spoke to her, accompanied her… he feels that that is enough. Yet it pains him that he had never gotten to know her name, her personality, had never gotten to see her radiant smile at its most beautiful…
The other beings of the forest, what he now learned to call his companions; his friends… had urged him to go after her. To meet with her. To see her.
But he refused.
She does not need to know of his existence. Not now.
She was a being of light, whilst he was a being of darkness.
She cannot meet him now, it would taint her existence.
Just her happiness was enough, he thought. Just her smile was enough.
The pain in his chest is still and forever will be his agony. But he can bear this pain. This was alright.
It reminds him of her existence, their connection, his hope. And it is a mark that, someday, somewhere, somehow… they would meet again.
He'd be able to see her again.
Maybe then, he thinks, maybe then she'd be able to truly acknowledge his presence. Maybe then he would be able to stay by her side, to see her smile and cry and laugh and… and she'd be awake all that time and he'd be there smiling and crying and laughing with her...
Maybe then she'd even be able to truly accept him. Maybe then he would be able to truly bask in her light…
But just being able to see her is enough.
Just his wish is enough.
Just this hope is enough.
'This is enough' he thinks as he dreams. Because right now he was content, at peace with just this dream.
"This is enough"
