The main pairing is obviously Yuffie and Riku. Who have matured a bit from their game versions. Maybe a year or two.
A lot of people may hate me for this…but…well, I'll just let you find out later in the second chap….

Prologe: Hurtful Memories
Yuffie walked into the room and dropped her bag on the floor. The pastel greens, pinks, purples and blues dazzled around reflecting her usual happy personality. She sat down on the turquoise satin sheets that draped her bed. She felt so heavy on the inside. As if all her feelings weighed a ton. As if they all sat heavily within her on her heart. The last few years of her life were the best. And yet that is why she felt this way. She looked pretty much the same as well. Except she had grown taller and her hair grew out longer.
Yuffie ran her fingers through her hair brushing it back. Then she broke down and started crying. Tears dropping on the sheets forming spots of darker blue. She felt so empty and discontent. She wanted to end it all right there and then.
She got up and walked into the kitchen. Surprised she could still walk with such heavy feeling bearing down on her. She took a knife. From the kitchen drawer and raised it to her wrists. Ready to end her life. The sting of pain she would soon feel pulsed through her veins. Suddenly a loud bang sounded in her ears.
"Oh god!" Yuffie cried out as the feel of shock went through body. Kairi burst into the kitchen.
"Yuffie! Yuffie what are you doing?" Kairi yelled in disbelief. Louder than Yuffie did before her. She knocked the knife out of her hands and it feel to the floor. It clattered loudly adding to the dark events that just happened.
"I….UH…." Yuffie sniffled.
"KAIRI!" She yelled as her knees went weak and everything around her went dark.

An hour later Yuffie awoke in her room. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail at the nape of her neck. With a few strands of hair hanging out every here and there. Kairi walked into the room with a cup of tea and sat down besides Yuffie. Yuffie sat up and took the cup of tea.
"What happened?" Yuffie asked Sipping the tea. It tasted as if it had been warmed multiple times.
"I was worried about you….so I…I came over. To check up on you. I found you in the kitchen with a….with a knife. "Oh yeah….." Yuffie responded. Still a bit foggy on what just happened. She looked at her wrists and saw a tiny scratch.
"Did I go through"
"No….and I'm so happy that I came in time to stop you." Kairi said coming to tears.
"I just don't understand why you would want to hurt yourself. You have so many friends….and Riku…" Suddenly Yuffie felt a sharp pain in her heart. She dropped her tea and it hit the floor with a loud thud. Splashing the red tinted tea on the crème carpet.
"Ri…" She started. Grasping for air as her head throbbed with pain.
"RIKUUU!"!" She yelled out. She took a hand over heart. Digging her hand into her skin as she started to cry again.
"Yuffie! Yuffie what's wrong"
Yuffie laid back down in her bed and let tears flood over. Creating pools of water.
"You must really love him." Kairi said putting her hand on Yuffie.
"Why…" Yuffie begun.
"Why what"
"Why did he do it? Why did this happen"
Kairi stared at Yuffie unable to speak. Wide eyed at what she just heard.
"Riku betrayed me. I only blame myself for falling into his trap. My life is useless, unneeded and undesired. A hollowed shell void of a soul or love"
"He betrayed me…"
