The Promise

It was growing darker by the moment

I stood over Naruto

He was not dead

Just unconscious

I couldn't kill my best friend

I wasn't like him

I wasn't like Itachi

I was Uchiha Sasuke not a follower of my brother

This was supposed to be easy

A simple escape from the village

No one would come after me

But the Godaime sent a team after me

I was surprised

When I sensed them following me

Even more surprised to sense that Gaara and his siblings had also come

That meant that she was here

Even her name makes me happy

We had only really talked once

Without anyone else around

That one-day

I had taken a break from my training with Kakashi

You had been training in the woods

And were eating lunch on a cliff overlooking a waterfall

I happened to notice you

You noticed me

We didn't say a word at first

All that I could think was

Wow she is beautiful

I don't know what you were thinking

But you offered me some lunch

Which I gladly accepted

We sat there looking over the trees talking about everything

We stayed there for over four hours

Kakashi was mad when I finally returned

But as I turned to leave

You caught my arm

And the look on your face spoke volumes to me

I leaned in and kissed you

Just softly

And then I pulled away

And you smiled at me

Then we went separate ways

My mistake then was not asking to see you again

Not that we would have had time

I realized after three days of training

And not being able to get you off my mind

That I was in love with you

Those four hours will never leave me

I will never forget you

As I turn to leave I nearly have a heart attack

You are standing behind me

Glaring at me

I'm actually scared

Scared that I've ruined any chance for us to be

' So Sasuke..'

I don't answer

' You thought that you could leave..'

Oh no here it comes

' Without saying goodbye?'

' I didn't know you would be here'

Stupid answer

' I have to go I have to become stronger than I already am'

' I know, I just wanted you to say goodbye to me before you left'

' Temari…I'm sorry…I really do…'

' Hush now…don't ruin the moment'

I smile and wrap my arms around you

And kiss you tenderly

Whispering I love you against your lips

I feel you smile as I spin you around

Then I set you down and turn to walk away

As I'm leaving you call to me

' I love you too! So you'd better come back to me!'

Turning around I grin at you

' It's a promise!'
