I do not own Chuck or anything associated. So don't sue!
I wrote this late at night instead of studying for econ and doing bio. I'm a bad, bad girl.
But anyway, this is my second fic (more like drabble) that I'm publishing cause I have a bunch that are only half done. So please read and review! I appreciate any writing tips.
Spoilers from Chuck vs. the Best Friend
Right there, right then, it felt right.
His hand grasping hers, with both of them watching Jeff and Lester's crazy rendition of Toto's Africa, being in the Buy More amongst family and friends, she wouldn't rather be anywhere else.
And for a moment, she thought that even if they weren't together now or ever would be, as long as she had a friend somewhere, she could die happily. Because somebody cared about her.
She thought for a moment about her childhood: pulling cons with her dad, she certainly led an exciting life, but moving around all the time didn't allow for much interaction with kids around her age. Always shedding identities, always changing schools, changing personalities, she was lonely. Because sometimes all the money in the world couldn't fill that spot in her heart that only a best friend could.
She stood there, smiling happily at the warmth in her right hand and the cool metal of the bracelet. And then she thought about how funny the world was. As a child, she had to be the grownup for her dad, keep him grounded, but now, just smiling and listening to the music as if all of her responsibilities didn't exist, she somehow regained some of her lost childhood memories.
With Chuck, she felt like a giddy, carefree 7 year old.
She couldn't recapture everything that could have happened in her youth, but now she knew the possibilities were endless. A girls' night out with Ellie and Anna, a shared cheesecake with Chuck, and even an evening of Morgan. Friends helped make the spy life easier.
And yet…
She glanced sideways and shot Chuck a bittersweet smile, when she realized she couldn't go soft now. She had to be strong and focused for Chuck. She just hoped he could understand.
She slowly slid her hand from his.
She'd always leave in the end.
