A/N: This was a little project I had to do for AP Biology. Be prepared for a bunch of bad puns!
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
Book 8: Potassium Potter and the Redox Reaction
A long time ago on number four, Privet Drive, there lived a boy named Potassium Potter. Now Potassium was not an ordinary boy, no he was an ionic wizard. Ionic wizards had electrons that provided their source of magical energy. At age eleven, Potassium discovered his destiny to give off one electron. The ionic wizards called him "The Giving One."
Potassium went to Hogwarts, school of ionic witchcraft and wizardry. His best friends were Hydrogen Granger and Radon Weasley. The headmaster warned them never to enter the Bonding Forest.
Now, there was also a very bad ionic wizard who wanted to steal Potassium's electron. The magic folk called him Lord Iodine. Lord Iodine had a very high electronegativity that caused him to desire Potassium's electron.
One day, Potassium decided to explore the Bonding Forest in spite of the headmaster's warning. Potassium found himself all alone in the dark woods. Creatures of Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Astatine all wanted to take Potassium's electron.
Potassium ran as fast and far as he could. But behind a tree nearby, Lord Iodine hid quietly, with his wand ready.
"Hello ? Is anybody there ? Potassium asked. He thought he hear a soft murmur.
Lord Iodine uncloaked himself.
"It is I, Lord Iodine. Give me your electron so that I can fill my 7-electron valence shell !" Iodine hissed, pointing his wand at Potassium.
"NEVER ! " Potassium screamed, swinging his wand high.
"Oxidation! " Lord Iodine cried pointing his wand at Potassium.
Potassium stopped. He felt his chest burning and ready to burst.
A redox reaction was ready to release energy.
The single electron from Potassium's valence shell glowed red as it ripped from his chest.
As the mighty single electron moved towards Lord Iodine, the electronegative wizard, the redox reaction released a streak of glowing energy.
The glowing red electron transferred into Lord Iodine's chest and he was reduced. Lord Iodine became the oxidizing agent, as he oxidized Potassium. Potassium was the reducing agent although he was oxidized because he reduced Lord Iodine by giving him an extra electron.
A complete transferring occurred.
A moment of silence veiled over the two ionic wizards. Potassium felt almost invigorated and refreshed when freed from the burden of the electron and Lord Iodine felt less spiteful and evil. He felt happy.
"You know, I feel good with that extra electron, even though I am now negatively charged," Lord Iodine smiled, his red eyes glowing.
"And I do, too, but I am positively charged because I lost a negative electron," Potassium exclaimed.
And they lived happily ever after, with a strong ionic friendship (bond). They called their dynamic duo, potassium iodide.
THE END.
