Osgood stood with the Doctor and Clara in the playground. It had been brilliant to work so closely with her hero and she had even travelled with him in the TARDIS; what an absolute dream come true! However, the breakdown of the Zygon ceasefire and Operation Double had been gut-wrenching to bear witness to, especially in the wake her sister's death. She knew that she needed some time to reflect and take stock of everything that had happened.

"What are you going to do now?" Clara asked her as they prepared to say goodbye. Osgood looked up and across to the other side of the park where Kate stood in the background. Her hands were in their customary position in her pockets and her eyes were fixed somewhere on the ground in front of her. She was clearly waiting for something but kept a respectful distance at the same time.

"I don't really know."

"I understand Kate's offered you your old job back at UNIT?" She'd sounded him out before asking the Zygon-Human hybrid and he'd readily agreed it was the right thing to do.

"Yes, she did."

"Aren't you going to take it? She's missed you."

"I've missed her. UNIT too." And she had; she'd missed the routine and the banter with her colleagues but it hadn't felt the same since that fateful day in the Black Archive.

"But...?" The Doctor could tell by her body language and tone of voice that there was something gnawing away at her, preventing her from accepting Kate's offer.

"But it wouldn't work, there'd always be some doubt over my true identity and I'd be treated with suspicion every time I did or said something. I need to move on; I hear A Charitable Earth is always looking for volunteers?"

"She loves you, you know?" The Doctor only ever appeared to be dense when it came to human emotions and interactions. He'd seen how Kate had reacted every time Osgood was mentioned or in danger and it was obvious even to his Gallifreyan brain that the younger woman felt the same way.

"And I love her too, but it wouldn't be fair." Osgood looked back in the direction of where Kate had been standing and they made eye contact. She shook her head sadly and Kate knew instantly that she was lost to her. Kate's heart clenched in pain and sorrow and she'd tried to keep the grief out of her expression but it was futile. She nodded her head in acknowledgement and turned away from the playground, wiping her wet eyes with her hands as she did so. Osgood felt guilty but knew it was the right thing to do, to keep the peace and in honour of her double.

"Well, I think you're very brave." Clara said with admiration in her voice and leaned in to give Osgood a hug. "Good luck, whatever you end up doing." Osgood gave the younger woman a squeeze and stepped back.

"Thanks for everything Doctor."

"You're most welcome. You take care now."

"I will."
