A/N: This is originally written for LJ's KH Drabble Challenge #303 History Repeats Itself. It's nothing special, but I hope that you guys enjoy it. :)
Light…
Xehanort frowned. Just what kind of book was this? The cover was dark brown and worn and it seemed to be older than the oldest person living in this world.
In the age of fairy tales, the World was whole and full of light. People believed that this light was a gift from an unseen land by the name of Kingdom Hearts...
The more he read, the more he had the feeling that this book was never supposed to be in this library. Well, he wasn't going to go and ask Master about it, because something told him that she would demand him not to read any further and give that book to her.
Mysteries…
They say that every legend had some truth in it, a point where fantasy and reality collided, then were melting together. This story, however, couldn't be just an old legend. The Keyblade War had really happened, Xehanort was sure of that.
If only there was a way to unlock these mysteries.
He would find a way. He'd never backed down from a challenge and had never failed before. And he certainly didn't plan on changing that. No, when he set his mind on something, nothing could stop him.
War…
If such a thing had happened before, then who said that it couldn't happen again? History always had a tendency to repeat itself if people didn't watch out. Sometimes it even happened when people did try to prevent that. Xehanort had started to count on that. There were enough self-fulfilling prophecies in the worlds, after all. Enough shelves in this library were filled with books that contained that subject.
X-blade…
If history could repeat itself and people could spot the signs right in time, then that meant that it was possible to take control of certain events, too. So maybe the answer couldn't be found in the presence or the future, but in the past.
And he knew where exactly he could find it…
Hours after hours, he sat behind the same wooden desk and on the same uncomfortably hard chair, studying the worn book carefully. It was a time-consuming task, because it was all written in ancient English. Those hours slowly turned into days, but he still remained unsatisfied. All the while, he made notes of everything he deemed important.
Something about him had changed. His brown eyes reflected the dark mysteries that he held in his heart, and they had a dangerous-looking orange glow in them. He also became more quiet and withdrawn as he spent his energy on researching the truth behind the legend.
When the silver-haired pupil heard a pair of footsteps coming closer to the library, he swiftly marked the page he was on and decided to hide the book somewhere safe. Somewhere only he could find it.
"Ah, there you are! Master Lumina and I were almost starting to get worried," Eraqus spoke, relieved that he'd found his best friend.
"My apologies… It seems that I lost track of the time," Xehanort said with a small smile.
"No worries, it can happen to any of us. Let's go stargazing together! The stars look beautiful tonight," the younger pupil suggested.
"Alright. I'll join you."
With that, Xehanort got up and followed his friend, leaving the huge library. Physically, he was in the Land of Departure, but his thoughts were elsewhere completely.
Soon enough, he would find out more about the mysterious Keyblade War that had cost a lot of lives. First, he had to visit that Keyblade Graveyard, the place where it all began and where it all would end…
