Dearest Diary,
Upon the date of Pip's departure I have decided that you need a name for which I might call you by. Though people rarely call things by names without being put into the cells of Broadmoor Lunatic Asylum. This shall be our secret, however, if this were to be read ever, I should be sent to the asylums. I pray I be dead long before such is known about this that I may live a life in peace. However I am not sure how I might do this without Pip.
I pray he shall come back soon so I may see his kind eyes. I wonder quite much how he should be changed once we meet again. Should he feel differently about Estella, and fancy me as I do him? Tis a dream that I doubt to come true. However, I live a happy life on the marshes and enjoy the company of Joe and Mrs. Joe Gargery. She has quite softened since the incident and become much more agreeable.
Though this all quite fancies me, I must name you for fear I should forget 'fore finishing my entry. I would like a friend in thee, and so a friendly name you should have. I still laugh when I think of you as a friend despite you being a leather bound book with sheets of paper in it. I pray you should be called Paige. Though tis the name of a low class boy, it has quite a ring to it that fancies me and should makes me think you a girl if you ever did have a gender. And as such, I close my letter to you my dearest Paige. May your wait for another letter from me be short and last not long.
Sincerely,
Biddy
