If they could not see it themselves, he would make them. It hurt so much to see them talking, or not talking as he used to. He wanted to stare into those perfect blue eyes again, figure out what was happening behind them. Only now it wasn't the same, he knew what those eyes were hiding: pity and a broken heart.
Hope had led them down different paths and driven them apart, leaving the perfect blue alone and sad. Where the ice had once melted there was now an even thicker sheet, keeping everything in and everything else out. His searching green eyes had once seen the change, noticed it and been engulfed by their watery depths, only to be swallowed by hope and despair that was unbearable by anyone else.
Until now, as he watched the ice melt for those plain, inquisitive brown eyes, he couldn't help but wonder why destiny had chosen someone else. The past meant nothing now, it was destroyed, only the future stood undetermined and proudly waiting for fate and hope to catch up with it.
His pain fueled his determination to draw the two together forever. To see those eyes melt again was enough. To see their true color again was all he needed, and he understood that this time they could not freeze again because of the fire that hid behind seemingly innocent brown eyes.
He would make it so that the green eyes were no longer needed to help melt the ice, so that a kiss would light them up, a loss would make them cry. Perfect blue eyes should be allowed to cry, even if they are stained red.
