Dedicated to Nozza
Left alone in the dark Lea time to consider; these people were never going to give in, she had no doubt that they would not rest until she was dead. But how to kill someone who is already halfway there? They seemed to know and that scared Lea. How did they know? Or was it a bluff? Were they trying to scare her into talking? Well the scaring part had worked she thought bitterly but I won't tell them what they want. They can kill me if they want but I will not talk, I won't betray Gabriel, I've done enough damage already.
A sound made her jump in alarm and then recoil in fear as a light flickered on the wall of the stairs. Someone was coming to see her. Lea stood and smoothed her creased skirt. She planted her feet firmly on the ground, trying not to wince as her red raw feet scraped on the flags, and held her head high.
A shadow flickered and danced on the walls of the spiral staircase, coming closer and closer. Lea's heart thumped as she waited in apprehension to see what fresh horror these people had in store for her. The figure reached the foot of the stairs and, as his face was thrown into relief by the candle he held in front of him, Lea let out a soft gasp. The man's face was scarred so badly that it was completely unrecognisable. If it hadn't been for his gentle, green eyes Lea would not have recognised who this man was: Caspian. The one man who had shown her any kindness when she had been a prisoner in London. The one man who had stood up for her when Lea was at her weakest. The only person apart from Gabriel that she would trust with her life. What was he doing here? How had he even known where I was? Confused thoughts rushed through Lea's head.
