This is kinda a gift-fic for my friend Lorena. She wanted time-travel, I put a twist.
Returning to What I Once Knew
When Ciel's eyes opened, he couldn't exactly place where he was. He knew without a doubt that he had Sebastian tuck him into bed after he had a nice, warm cup of tea to calm his nerves after a busy day at the mansion. So what was he doing out in the bushes, a gun laying by his feet? He glanced up, and for a split second, hoped to Hell that he was still dreaming.
His old manor stood in front of him, unburnt and regal, a shadow of a memory he once loved.
It was dark inside the halls from his viewpoint into the closed windows, signaling that everyone was still asleep. Or was there even someone inside to begin with? This was a dream, so perhaps his family was in there, happily dreaming about the things they cherished most. Momentarily, he wondered if a younger version of himself was also curled up under the covers of his old bed.
From the corner of his eye, he noticed a dark figure approaching the mansion, and reality struck him.
He was seeing the burning of his house from a different perspective. The man was faceless, as he had been for so many years, but Ciel could tell by the way he snuck around that he was the man that had ruined his life on his tenth birthday. On instinct he picked up the rifle and hoisted it onto his shoulder, aiming carefully.
He stopped. Was this really a dream? Or was it real?
If this was a dream, than there would be no consequences for killing this man. However, it seemed all too real. This could be something Sebastian would be capable of doing (the demon had ways of doing things Ciel couldn't even begin to comprehend), and if he shot that man right now, his life would probably change. Was it really worth it?
He would never have gone through the torture that the Baron Kelvin forced him though, which was good, but then he'd also never have met Sebastian and formed a contract with the demon. His parents would still be alive, but would that guarantee that Baldroy, Mey-rin and Finnian would be by his side as servants of the Phantomhive manor? It might have been foolish for him to believe that a vision like this could be anything but a dream conjured by his own mind, but if that man hadn't set his old home ablaze, as much as Ciel hated to admit it to himself, his life wouldn't be the same.
He lowered the weapon and watched with fascinated eyes as the man started with the far corner of the large building, escaping off into the night. The fire spread rather quickly, and Ciel winced at the sounds of his own screaming, trying to beg Tanaka to let him save his parents.
A hand met his shoulder and he looked back into the red eyes of his most trusted servant. "You did well, young master. It is time for you to return to your own time now."
Ciel nodded, clinging onto Sebastian's jacket. Clinging on to the last true sense of protection he had in this ruthless reality.
Guiz. It's a Kuroshitusji one-shot, but it's not smut, and it's not drunken writing. SHIRAI ARE YOU PROUD OF ME
My friend Lorena wanted time travel when I asked her for a plot idea, and I didn't know how to do that with all the other fandoms I'm currently writing for that she knows about (WATCH MORE ANIME GODDAMMIT), so I brought out my BB side and wrote something with Ciel. I hope I'm not too far off; I need to rewatch the series because it's been too damn long.
I hope you enjoyed it Lore-re! *love*
