One Last Dance
Pretty much just a cute fic about the best couple on TV. It's set before 'Casino Night' so Jim hasn't confessed his feelings for Pam yet, and she's still engaged to Roy.
Pam stared at her computer screen. The people in the video were making it seem so easy, but she knew if she tried it, the receptionist would fall flat on her face in a matter of simple seconds.
She was so busy wondering how on earth she was going to pull this off, she didn't notice Jim in front of her.
"Wow, Beesly, dance videos? I expected more of you."
Pam looked up startled to see Jim smiling at her from behind her desk.
"Oh! Hey, Jim. Roy's taking me to his aunt's wedding this weekend and I uh…I've never really danced before." She thought she saw his fall a little bit when he heard Roy's name, but she chalked it up to her imagination.
"Well, lucky for you, I happen to be an expert dancer," Jim replied, popping a few jelly beans into his mouth, "can't you see girls just lining up to dance with me?"
Pam giggled. "I'm sure it happens all the time, Halpert."
The pair agreed to meet on the roof after work that day. It was a fact that Jim was happier about than he cared to admit.
You're teaching her how to dance for her fiancé, he told himself, her fiancé.
All thoughts of that flew out of his mind when he climbed out onto the roof. Pam was already there, the wind gently whipping her hair. She turned around to smile at him and his heart skipped a beat.
"Promise not to kill me?" she teased, "I don't think Roy would be too happy about that."
There's a lot of things Roy wouldn't be too happy about, he thought, and just smiled.
They stepped closer and he wrapped an arm around her waist while she put a hand on his shoulder and grabbed his hand.
Warmth spread through Jim's body, but he ignored it. "Now, you just kind of waltz," he instructed, and Pam obeyed.
Night was beginning to fall as they waltzed around the rooftop.
There they were, dancing in the dark of a roof. It was Jim's greatest fantasy. Except for that one little detail.
After this was over, the girl he loved so desperately would go home to another man. She would kiss his cheek hello at the door, not his.
Jim knew in his heart that he loved Pam a thousand times more than Roy ever could. But there was nothing he could do about it. But he also knew something else.
He was waiting for his wife.
A short and sweet Jam piece. I really hoped you liked it!
