Half

Are you looking for someone?

Yes.

For a long time?

Yes.

And it was there, an instant, a heartbeat, the feel of something great – in front of the choir room. Her books fell and she is standing, like always, on the concrete floor. Mai says, 'You don't look okay.'

Natsuki is never okay. She walks slower and she thinks she should be walking faster. She was good in Math and she thinks she's supposed to be flunking it. Late in the afternoon, when the school is a blur of students leaving the grounds, she would stay still and wait. Two. Three. Five minutes of nothing.

She asks Mai, 'What's for dinner?' and Mai knows what her friend is thinking about. Natsuki is searching again. She can tell, her friend looks half-human and the other half is somewhere else. Lost and will probably not come back for a while.

' Noodles.' The reply is automatic. Mai knows her answer doesn't matter. She could have said Bubblegum Soda and Natsuki would still say, 'Okay.'

The travel store is open nine in the morning to seven in the evening. The new promo says, 'Italy for as low as 70000'. Natsuki stops, always, in front of the store. Her nose three inches away from the glass. She says, ' Kyoto is nice.' And Mai answers in the same tone she used yesterday, 'Yes.'

'What is your favourite colour sempai?' Shizuru stops and think. The young editor waits for the answer.

'Blue, she says, blue is nice.'

And the world moves again.

a/n: this is an AU connected with 'afternoon matinee'. Tsubasa chronicles, much? How many worlds do you think would it take before they finally get together? Lol
