Peaceful Nights

Spock couldn't fall asleep he was quite restless. He tried everything mediating, playing chess, and going through some reports. Nothing worked. Then his Vulcan lyre caught his eye. He picked it up and stroked the polished wood with his long slender fingers. Then he began to pluck at the strings and soon found himself playing a very ancient Vulcan song.
Jim Kirk was sleeping in his cabin when he was awakening by a nice song from next door.
" Spock must be playing his Vulcan lyre." He thought to himself. Kirk found the song soothing and listened for a while then he called Uhura, Scotty, McCoy, Sulu, and Chekov. When they got there Kirk told them to listen. Everyone seemed memorized by the song. Then they all decided to go and see Spock play.
Silently, they all walked in and stood in the doorway. They spotted Spock in a chair next to his bed playing the instrument. Everyone watched as Spock's fingers quickly plucked the strings. The sound from the instrument was amazing. The music was lively and happy one moment and then sad and quiet. It caused everyone to stare in awe at the instrument and the musician playing it.
The song ended and everyone applauded and whistles from Sulu. Spock looked up and saw that he had an audience. Kirk broke the silence.
" Spock, I think you should play for the entire crew I think they would enjoy and it would take the minds off the stressful days we had."
" Very well, Captain I will do as you wish tomorrow night in the mess hall, but I'm going to call it a night." Spock said.
" Okay, Spock good night." Kirk said with a smile. Then everyone left Spock's quarters.
The next day came and went and night soon fell. The whole crew of the Enterprise jammed together in the mess hall. Spock came out dressed in a robe of all black, a traditional dress of his people. He sat on a stool and played his Vulcan lyre the same song that Uhura, McCoy, Kirk, Scotty, Chekov, and Sulu heard last night. The entire crews like the people last night were memorized by the song and watched Spock play with finesse that only a talented musician can give you. When Spock finished many people were crying and smiling at the same time and applauded loudly. They wanted an encore so Spock gave them one.
" This is for the Captain." Spock said. Then he played Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Everyone who knew the song sang along and when it was done everyone was content and called it a night. Soon everyone was gone except for Kirk and Spock. They weren't ready to call it a night yet and were silent looking at the stars passing by each to their own thoughts. Kirk broke the silence.
" Thanks, for a memorable and peaceful evening."
" It was my pleasure Captain, but I find myself not ready to go to bed. Would you like to play a game of chess?" Spock asked.
" Why, Mister Spock what a wonderful idea." Kirk exclaimed.
Spock quickly went to his room got the chess set. Then Kirk and him played chess and talked the rest of the night away.
