Disclaimer: I do not own the characters or the song.
Author's Note: So I originally posted this on LJ with a different pairing, but I read it again and thought it would work well with Brooke and Peyton. Let the angst begin
Peyton sat at her table at Karen's with her headphones in her ears letting the lyrics of the song wash over her. It was like all the thoughts that had been swimming in her head for months were being set free as she listened.
"I'm not in love,
This is not my heart,
I'm not gonna waste this words,
About a girl"
She looks up from the food she had been shifting around on her plate, and her eyes immediately find two forms at the counter across from her. Brooke and Lucas. She watches as Brooke giggles at something Lucas says. Her eye catches how he gently places his hand on Brooke's arm. Suddenly, Peyton has the urge to go Chainsaw Massacre on Lucas. She quickly decides that probably isn't the best line of action in the situation, and decides to get back to writing.
But before she can something else catches her eye. Brooke is giving Lucas THAT smile. The one that slightly breaks Peyton's heart every time she sees Brooke give it to someone else. Peyton's eyes quickly find the book in her lap again because she thinks if she watches for one more second she may cry or do something incredibly violent.
She concentrates on the lyrics again, and no matter how much she wants to believe that they apply to her situation she knows they don't. Peyton is in love. That is her heart sitting a few feet away from her. And she is wasting these words about a girl.
