Just my little contribution to Lenny Week. Enjoy!
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Penny sat on a bench in the park near the house she and Leonard had bought that spring. The broad-brimmed sun hat she wore cast a shadow over the small smile on her face as she watched children playing. Penny's eyes wandered from time to time, but her gaze always returned to the cute little blonde girl playing in the sandbox near where she sat. The little girl somehow sensed her attention and looking over, gave a little wave of her hand. Penny's smile widened as she waved back. The little girl suddenly jumped up and shouted "Mommy!" and ran over to hug the legs of a young blonde woman who had been standing in the shade of a nearby tree cradling an infant.
Leonard returned with the treat Penny had asked him for in time to see this scenario play out. Walking over to his wife, he couldn't help but notice the single tear running down her cheek. "Penny, are you crying?" he asked.
"What? No!" she said, quickly wiping away the errant drop. "Damn hormones!" she thought to herself.
"Here, sweetheart. I got what you wanted," Leonard said, holding up the carton he was carrying. "It's a little cliche, don't you think? Not to mention kinda gross. Pickles and ice cream? Really?"
"Well you're not the one eating it. Give it here, Hofstadter!"
Leonard handed her the carton and eased down beside her, resting his hand on her now very prominent baby bump. Penny sighed contentedly as she spooned out some of the ice cream. Soon enough she'd have her own cute little blonde girl to bring to the park to play.
