The whole clan hissed at the newcomer as Leafstar guided her down the path to the nursery.

"She is part of the FireClan now. I will now give you your name," Leafstar said. The new she-cat nodded.

"Your name is now Frostheart, because of your beautiful long, white fur," Leafstar said.

"I am truly honored," Frostheart smiled.

"Flamepaw will be your apprentice. You've been in the wild before, fighting for yourself, yes?" Leafstar asked.

"That's right. I was alone for a long time."

"Then you will be a strong mentor to him. Flamepaw?" Leafstar called.

An orange kit tumbled out of the clan to go to Leafstar.

"Flamepaw, this will be your mentor, Frostheart."

"Eew! Why did I have to get a she-cat and Smallpaw and Fangpaw got toms?" Flamepaw gagged. Frostheart laughed at this. Kits really are funny, she thought.

"Now, Flamepaw," Leafstar began.

"It's fine," Frostheart giggled.

"Alright. You choose how to train him," Leafstar nodded as she walked off.

"So, I'm guessing you want to be a warrior?" Frostheart meowed when they were alone.

"Hmph."

Frostheart laughed again. "You really don't want to be with a she-cat, do you?"

Silence.

"Have you ever caught a mouse before?" Frostheart ventured.

"What do you think?" Flamepaw snapped.

"Um, I don't know," Frostheart said quietly.

"I'm not a little kit anymore. I'm big enough to defend myself without a mentor!"

"Is that so? Well, I challenge you to a fish-catching competition!" Frostheart wanted to see if he would take a bet.

"I could beat a kittypet anyday!"

"I am not a kittypet. I was just alone in the wild for a long time!" Frostheart fumed. "Now, are you taking the bet?"

"I have nothing to lose. You on the other hand…" Flamepaw smirked.

"Don't even. We start at dawn."

"Why not start now? Or are you too out of practice?" Flamepaw sighed.

"Fine. We start now." They both rushed off to find as many fish as they could. Frostheart tried to make Flamepaw mad on purpose to push him. She padded down to the Yish River, the one by the camp. She caught nine fish in total that day, a big accomplishment. She planned to give her prey to the elders. She set them in front of Leafstar when she returned to the camp.

"I challenged Flamepaw to a fish competition. I figured he could get practice and catch food for the elders. It's like killing two birds with one stone," Frostheart grinned.

"In you I am well pleased," the old leader smiled. "Where is the kit?"

"He'll be coming back soon."

"Frostfur! I got six! How many did you get?" Flamepaw called.

"I got nine!" She called back.

"Awww. What do we do with this extra prey?" Flamepaw's smile faded.

"We give it to the elders. Whatever is left goes to the rest of the clan to share," Frostheart nodded knowingly.
