The Room of Requirement and the Chamber of Secrets

The Room of Requirement had had a long day. Some noisy ginger kids from Gryffindor had been hanging around in there for hours and all it wanted was to have a well-earned cup of tea and a rest. It settled down with a creak and started to rest. Just as it was drifting off to sleep, moaning myrtle appeared before it. 'What now?!' It exclaimed with frustration. 'Well, you don't have to be so MEAN', Myrtle whined. 'I've half a mind not to give you this now!' The Room Of Requirement's 'ears' pricked up. A gift? From Myrtle? 'What do you mean, give me this?' Myrtle became suddenly coy. 'Well, now you're interested in poor moaning myrtle, aren't you? If you want it, you'll have to do me a favour first.' The Room of Requirement sighed, and its door appeared in the wall before Myrtle. She squealed and rushed in, posting a little note through the letterbox on the door as she went. The door slammed shut, leaving Myrtle alone with four ghostly emo boys in an attic. Excitedly, the Room of Requirement unravelled the note; it was the first it had ever received in its long life of servitude. The note was made of parchment, and on it in glistening red letters was written the enigmatic words, 'come visit me and let me show you my basilisk.. If you know what I mean ;)'. The Room of Requirement blushed with surprise and embarrassment, causing Myrtle to shout, 'hey! Keep the temperature down, we'd be dying in here if we weren't already dead!' It hurriedly took some deep breaths and calmed down. The Room of Requirement couldn't fail to work out who the message was from; everyone knew of the dark, mysterious Chamber of Secrets with its hidden monster within. The question was, why had the Chamber chosen to send its outrageous little message to the Room of Requirement?
