Chad knocked nerviously on the door to Sonny's dressing-room
"Uhg" Tawni whined, wrinkling her nose in discust as she opened the door. "What do you want?"
"To speak with Sonny for a second" he said. Sonny looked up from where she was sitting in the chair with her book. "Alone" he added when Tawni sat back down at her vanity.
"Fine" Tawni snapped, jumping up and stomping out of the room, slaming the door behind her. Chad waited until her heared the sound of her footsteps fade before he turned to Sonny.
"What's up?" she asked sweetly.
"I have a question" he said sheepishly.
"Fire away" she replied after a moment of silence.
"Is it true..." he began but his voice cracked. He cleared his throuht and began again. "Are you really going out with Grady?" his face was an expresionless mask but his eyes were full of worry and uncertanty.
"Why do you care?"
"I don't"
"Then why do you ask?"
"I... just answer the question"
"Right after you answer mine."
"I asked first" he said sounding like a child
"So?"
"Please, just answer the question"
"I can't"
"Why not?"
"It's complicated"
"NO" Chad shouted "It's not! It's a simple yes or no question"
"Chad... I"
"Answer the question"
"Yes, I am"
"Oh" he said looking suprised "Okay" He started toward the door.
"Chad" Sonny's voice was soft now
"Hm?" he turned toward her
"I...why do you care?"
"I don't" his voice cracked
"Then why do you ask?"
"Curiosity" he said after a moment. He then turned and walked briskly out of the room before she could say another word. But she saw it. He could wear a mask of stone but nothing could ever hide the pain she'd seen in his eyes.
