Disclaimer: If I owned Naruto it would be 18+

Hey everyone! It's been a catastrophic amount of time since I wrote or read anything on this site, so I persuaded myself to write the oneshot that's been in my head for a while. Please enjoy!

"I don't want to lose you to him Sasuke!"

"Was I ever yours?"

Naruto squeezed his eyes shut; he knew the answer, but he wouldn't let it pass his lips in fear that the bastard would run away.

"Naruto, at one point you had my attention. We were rivals, friends, maybe even brothers. But we were also children. That time has long since passed, it's time you forgot about me and got on with your life-"

"-Just like you've gotten over Itachi?" Naruto retorted. Sasuke's gaze was cold, and yet the red glint of the Sharingan promised hellfire.

"Don't you dare make such a comparison-"

Sasuke was always full of contradictions; the deep colour of his hair against his skin, the way he held onto his past yet tried to forget it at the same time, and how he-

"You know you don't want me to forget you, so don't say that I should. You may call be naïve, but I'm not stupid. You know you need me."

And Sasuke did. Deep down in his heart, in the part that was under lock and key, he knew that Naruto's persistence was the only thing that kept him on the nice side of sanity. In a world where snakes whispered madness in his ear at night time, the blond boy had become his lifeline, the one that kept his hopes for the future alive. It made Sasuke sick with fear at how weak and dependent he'd become- despite his best efforts to prevent it.

These thoughts brought heaviness to his eyelids and a thickness to his throat. He couldn't control it. He took a step towards the blond.

No, stop it!

He took another.

You fool!

And one more, until he was but a mere metre away from Naruto. But Sasuke made short work of the distance, grabbing the hideous jacket of the other and pulling him in close…before pressing his lips to the blond in desperation- and in the anger that the desperation caused.

But, just as suddenly as it had happened, Naruto found himself on the ground where Sasuke had shoved him. The fox child had wanted to question the other's actions, but the pleading in Sasuke's eyes made the question die on his lips. They would end the conversation there, and both would pretend to forget that it had happened; Sasuke out of sheer embarrassment, and Naruto because of his tendency to spoil the other.

Naruto started to form the Rasengan just as the Uchiha's eyes glowed red, and the Chidori came to life. They would battle and then they would part ways once more. Sasuke would pretend that he wasn't impatiently waiting for Naruto's next appearance. While Naruto would pretend to be surprised each time he found his arms full of Uchiha. It wasn't perfect, but it was routine, absolute.

"Was I ever yours?"

'Since the very beginning'

What do you think? I used the word "and" so often! But I couldn't help it, just like I can't help my disjointed writing style. Anyway, reviews are highly appreciated!

Much love XxXx
