So this is my first story and I really hope you all enjoy it! This story begins in the present and then you will be taken back into the past before all of this occurred. Once it catches up with this first chapter I will continue in the present.
"Maka!"
"Soul we can't save her now! We need to keep moving!"
"No there is still a chance! We have to go back...Please!"
"Soul she's gone! Maka is as good as dead by now,"
"But I promised...I swore I would protect her!"
"I know man but there isn't anything more we can do for her. She wouldn't want you to risk getting yourself killed either," Black*Star did his best to comfort his friend though he know it was futile. They had just lost the only person left in this world that Soul cared for.
"I never got to tell her 'Star. I-I should've told her how m-much I lov-" Soul's words were lost as his body buckled and was overcome with sobs. He did his best to contain himself but all the emotion and stress of the past weeks overcame him, tears flowing down his face like a river after a flood. Black*Star had never seen his friend so heartbroken, not even after they had lost his brother. Soul had always been the cool and collected member of the group no matter how bad things got.
Everyone came to a halt, brains processing what had truly just occurred. Tsubaki covered her mouth holding back chocked sobs as Liz and Patty huddled around her. The three cried together doing their best to keep quiet. Kid stared off blankly, his face a hidden mask though his eyes gave him away. Even Black*Star's facade was beginning to crack.
"S-Soul..." Tsubaki trailed off, untangling herself from Liz and Patty. Her face was tear streaked and her eyes puffy as she bent down to the broken man. She had no words of comfort to offer him, knowing better than most it would only further upset him. Silently she wrapped her arms around him as the others soon began to join.
They knew in the back of their minds that they should keep moving but no one could find the strength to pull away from the embrace. Everyone silently wept for those they had lost along the way. They cried for their old lives of normalcy...but most of all they cried for Maka. The stubborn bookworm they all loved who had been their friend since forever. The girl who always stuck up for what she believed in, her emerald eyes alight with a fierce fire. The girl Soul loved so much that he would give his life for her.
"I've lost my reason to live..." Soul whispered to himself, his words fading away into the wind. The rest looked at him knowing full well that they had not only lost Maka but Soul's soul had died along with her.
Hope you enjoyed this first chapter! The next one will be updated in a few days and it will take you back into the past. It will start of from 1 month ago at the beginning of the apocalypse and then work its way to the present. Fill free to give me any criticism or ideas you might have. Other chapters will be longer than this one but I just wanted to go ahead and get the story started off with.
