"Pegasus down! I repeat, pegasus down!" someone cried out, the sounds of war surrounding the fleet as they soared over the battlefield. All they could see was a cloud of blue feathers, the pony they came from cascading out of the sky, obviously trying to regain control of herself but failing miserably.
Rainbow Dash couldn't even see straight. The screaming pain in her wing was unlike anything she'd ever felt before, which, if she was being honest, was really saying something. Regardless, she braced for impact in her final few seconds of consciousness.
She hoped her fleet didn't stop fighting because of her.

The next thing she knew, she found herself in a bright white room. Squinting into the lights above her, Rainbow wondered if she was in heaven or not. Something worth considering only after she knew if her fleet was okay. Stumbling out of the bed she was in and attempting to stand, the pegasus was immediately guided by a couple earth ponies to lay back down. "Hey, what gives?!"
The red-and-white pony spoke. "Just rest for a minute! They'll be okay with one less pony on the front line for now."
"But. My. Fleet. Won't." At this point the two assistant ponies were practically holding her down, but they clearly wouldn't be able to keep her there for long. "LET ME UP!"
"Commander Dash!" a unicorn said urgently, galloping over to the situation and dismissing the two assistants. "Please, miss, stay in your bed for a few minutes. If you'd allow me to explain-"
Rainbow laid down, crossing her front hooves expectantly. "Well? I don't have all day!"
The unicorn sighed. "I've been on your case since you arrived here. You've been unconscious for about a week, so over that time we decided to begin patching you up."
"And?" Rainbow blew her forelock out of her face, suddenly annoyed at its existance.
"You sustained multiple broken bones and bruises, many of which we were able to heal with emergency magic… and… your wing."
"What about my wing?" Rainbow sounded even more annoyed, but in all reality she was terrified. "Why can't I just go back to my fleet?"
"Your left wing was blown off in the accident." The unicorn was doing his best to remain professional.
"WHAT?!" Rainbow spread her wings, trying to take off out of instinct. Instead, she heard a metallic pop and whirring noises. She finally worked up the courage to look to where her wing once was, expecting to see bandages or carnage, only to still see a wing. A metal wing that looked exactly like her own, except shiny and silver. "...what…?"
"It uses your own pegasus magic, and you can still fly. It's probably not strong enough for your sonic rainbooms, but do you think it'll work for now?"
She was silent for almost a full minute, folding and unfolding the metal contraption in awe. Rainbow even had feeling in the very tips of the feathers, as if she was still in one piece. There was just a soreness she couldn't seem to shake. Getting up and standing next to the bed, she flapped her wings a couple times and was airborne. It felt like nothing ever happened. Not to mention it looked cool.
"So when do I get outta here?"
