Lani: This piece begins a countdown of sorts to November 5, and each day I'll be posting some form of angsty poetry I wrote. Today, this is a song from Mello's perspective about L (known as "he" in the lyrics). "You" refers to Light until the final chorus, when "you" is directed at L. I hope that wasn't confusing. Please enjoy! Spoilers for volume 7 of the manga, episode 25 of the anime. Just in case you missed the warning in the summary.
Disclaimer: Needless to say, if I owned Death Note, things would have turned out in a happy-fluffy-cotton-candy-happy-way. And it'd suck.
Final Note Before I Shut Up: The little periods separate the stanzas so they don't run together. I just didn't want to use massive page breaks.
To Spread the Word
. . .
Raging eyes of blood;
To think he understood,
To think he really knew
What those eyes had planned
For his fate in the end.
Hatred and ambition –
His true triumph left unsaid.
.
For his doubts were confirmed;
Tell the world, tell the world!
.
Chorus –
In these last seconds,
Can he remember
My adoration?
I will always hold
This pure conviction;
I will remember
His final agony.
.
Oh what I would do
To get him far from you –
Don't touch him; get away!
How I wish to scream,
It has to be a dream
That lonely there he lies
In the arms of a red smile!
.
Here our enemy killed;
Tell the world, tell the world!
.
Chorus –
In these last seconds,
Can he remember
My adoration?
I will always hold
This pure conviction;
I will remember
His final agony.
.
Pooling scarlet blame,
Always recall our names
While you die to nothing.
He lives on in me;
His death wasn't empty.
I'll shoot quite happily,
My true foe eternally.
.
He and I made it fail;
Your new world, your new world!
.
Chorus –
In those last seconds,
Did you remember
My adoration?
See? I always held
My pure conviction;
They will forever,
Always remember
Our final agony.
Lani: Alrighty! Thank you for reading!
