A/N: Hello all. Thank you for all the support and views of "The Beginning Of The End"
This is my Sequel named "Aftermath" Cliché, yes and I may change it if a better name comes to mind.
I don't know where I will be going after Chapter 1 so... hopefully inspiration will strike.
Chapter 1 starts roughly in the final third act of 5X04, where Past and Present Dean find Lucifer in the rose bushes, except his time he isn't alone. Enjoy.
Aftermath:
Cas was more than perplexed of having two Dean's around him now. Past Dean was amusing, the hope and almost 'innocence' made Cas smile though it was excruciating not to just rant away at Past Dean after he was told to "Strap on his wings" the comment physically hurt. Despite everything he had gone through to become Mortal, losing his wings was not an experience that needed a refresher.
The Colt was found, of course Lucifer had planted himself in the middle of a Hot Zone, everyone was geared up to the nines and everyone was getting ready to infiltrate the building Present Dean had confirmed to be Lucifer's location. Cas may not be an Angel anymore but could distinctively tell when Dean would lie but he was a solider for Dean and did not disobey and ignored the discussion between the Deans that took place a few feet away, Cas could tell they were butting heads but it didn't matter right now.
As he and the few survivors of the Resistance marched off Past Dean yanked Cas aside and dragged him off towards Present Dean's location. Past Dean cupped over Cas' mouth, Cas just smiled knowing full well Dean's past had just saved his life, disappointment and a gut-throbbing punch landed into Cas. Present Dean, his Dean just intentionally served him up on a disposable plate for the Croats to rip to shreds. Swallowing anger and some leftover bile Cas strode to the radiation of Lucifer's strength, proving that his lack of 'mojo' wasn't a problem anymore.
The pair barely spoke, Past Dean had attempted with conversation starters but Cas didn't reply to much. Their car journey was enough to get all they needed to say to each other, at least in Cas' mind anyway.
Lucifer let out his distinctive Angelic power flow around him, being surrounded by tainted Grace brought a fond yet sickening feeling to Cas' insides. Lucifer was more powerful than Cas or anyone had imagined, Sam's body must of been a key factor but he tried to ignore that fact while he used stealth to find hidden ground.
Lucifer and Present Dean were facing each other. Pity rose in Cas' chest for his version's Dean, having to face your own possessed Brother acting as an 'Angel Condom' as Dean had once colourfully described couldn't be the best circumstances.
Lucifer was ready to snap Present Dean's neck after the Colt had fired and only lead to a bullet sized - and rapidly healing - hole on Lucifer's head. Cas was terrified this would happen and now was more than ready to be a sacrificial lamb if either Dean would survive, preferably both. Cocking his gun Cas laid three ordinary shots into Lucifer's pristine snow-coloured suit. 'Sam' faced him with an arrogant smirk.
"Well, dear Brother... this is a surprise. I was expecting to hear you had died, though the little Rebellious child is the hardest one to dispose of"
Cas tried not to flinch but Lucifer caught it, "Are you scared little Brother? You should be, Gabriel was too... he always was your favourite"
Scowling Cas fired two more shots, of course doing nothing "Gabriel wanted the fighting to be over, Lucifer!" Biting back choking Cas' steadied his breathing.
"Watch your tone,"
"Shove it, Lucifer!" Cas emptied his clip into wherever it hit the 6ft 4' giant vessel. Lucifer gripped Cas' neck tight and began to squeeze.
"Brother, you left me no choice" Lucifer calmly stated.
Cas caught his breath and murmured something loud enough to peak Lucifer's attention.
"What was that?"
Present Dean took the distraction to shiv Lucifer with Cas' long forgotten Angel Blade. It was stored in the depths of the camp, and it felt like a small miracle when they had found it.
"We got you, you Son of a Bitch!" Present Dean confirmed by twisting the Blade a little further, there was no indication Sam was coming back but Dean would deal with that later.
In an act of defiance Lucifer swung for Present Dean and managed to knock the Winchester unconscious, he slammed the heel of his palm into Cas' chest sending the Mortal man flying into a building's wall - now out for the count however he didn't leave empty handed, while distracted with Dean Cas had gripped the Blade and ripped it out of Lucifer's spinal chord.
Past Dean had vanished into thin air, whatever Zachariah had planned was over.
2014 Dean recovered from the punch to find Lucifer arching his back with an agonised expression, it reminded Dean of Sammy's first death "You think this will stop me?"
"Yes, it will" Cas yanked Lucifer's head up and slit his throat "That was for every single Human you killed, including Sam Winchester" Cas spun the Angel Blade around his hand like he had done many times before and watched Lucifer fall.
Bright light emanated from Lucifer, his wings implanted onto the gravel beneath him, marking a few of the red roses around him. Dean watched in despair as the one thing he had tried to do in a thirty-year long mission of keeping his baby Brother alive had failed.
The Winchester just stared at Lucifer's body, for a small moment Sam was there but vanished. Dean rearranged Sam to look humble in his death, laying him out flat on his back as he had slumped over and rested Sam's hands together on his middle.
"Goodnight, Sammy"
Dean walked away with Cas following him like a little lost puppy, the Blade now tucked up his sleeve.
"What do we do now? Everyone else is probably dead"
"I don't know, Cas. I stopped knowing what the Hell I was suppose to be doing a long time ago"
"Why don't we drive? Head down California, I heard a rumour that Survivors are there, a small, peaceful community is forming. We could finally stop all of this"
"What about the Croats?"
"We have fire power, ammo, food and water to last us the trip"
Dean couldn't find another reason to argue, he sighed heavily looking back as his Brother one last time
"Fine, we'll go back to where it all started, if I hadn't dragged his ass out of Stanford, none of this would of happened anyway"
Heavy silence fed in between them, Cas couldn't respond to Dean's proclamation, it was likely to be false but there was no point in saying anything now. Dean started the jeep's engine, silently informing Cas he'd take the first few hours of driving and then once crossing a boarder they would change to continue moving forward.
The killed Lucifer and now all there was left to do was live. How hard could that be?
